Top Ten Reasons to Run Paul and Mike’s Excellent Mile:

10. It’s only one mile, so you’ll be done fairly quickly.

9. You can walk it, jog it, run it or race it. Your race—your pace.

8. You can challenge your friends to come out and join you. The more the merrier.

7. The refreshments are great!

6. Champagne punch for all adults that report a PR. (Also champagne punch for any adult that would like some.)

5. The course is accurate and well marked, just in case you’re serious about your running.

4. You can run in person on Sat 7/22/23, or you can run it virtually and send me your time.

3. In addition to a tank top or race t-shirt, you also get a colorful umbrella this year. It looks like you’ll have plenty of chances to use your umbrella this summer! Come get one while they last.

2. All of the race proceeds go to support the Ronald McDonald House of Amarillo.

1. The Excellent Mile originators—Paul and Mike—are getting old. Come out and run with the legends, while you can.

One thing that disappoints me is race day conflicts, especially in a smaller market like Amarillo/ Canyon.
It looks like we are going to have a conflict on 7/22/23, so I want to offer some options to our potential participants.

If you’re conflicted, about which charity to support, I would like to offer the suggestion of supporting both.
They are both deserving entities.

If you can’t make it on 7/22/23, you can run Paul and Mike’s Excellent Mile as a virtual race and send me your time.
Alternately, I will be at Thompson Park on Friday, 7/21/23 at 8 AM, for a pre-race-day mile run.
If you opt for either of these, you still get the T-shirt and all the amazing P&M swag.

If you can make it Saturday, 7/22, that’s great.
If you prefer to run virtually, that’s amazing.
If you want to come out a day ahead of time and race on Friday 7/21, that is also Excellent.
Quite Excellent.

Just let me know if either of these options works for you.

Thankful for the recent rains.

Plans are well underway for this year’s Excellent Mile. July 22, 2023
It’s about 7 weeks away, so you have time to run several focused workouts, if you want get serious and run for time.
Everyone is welcome, regardless of speed or intensity.
All proceeds go to support the Ronald McDonald House here in Amarillo.

Ironically, our extra goody this year is a collapsible umbrella.
I ordered those several weeks ago and they were delivered back in mid-May.
Just crazy good luck on our part, to have something that could be so useful for us.

Enjoy this well-marked, accurate road mile Held in Thompson Park, in north Amarillo, TX. The downhill course often has a tailwind.
