Grain Surfboards NY

Grain Surfboards NY Build your own wooden surfboard in our 3 or 4 day workshops. In every workshop, each student builds their own wooden surfboard ready for glass.

Our intimate 3 and 4 day workshops are a unique opportunity for surfers to connect not only with their roots but also with the rewarding experience of learning to use traditional hand tools to shape a thing of beauty. The board you build is a fully functional work of art having more impact on your surfing and less impact on the environment. Call now to reserve your shaping stand.

Ahh the trusty shaping stand. A good one is worth it’s weight in salt(water?)

With just under a week here to go in Amagansett, we’re going to be selling a few of our stands to anyone interested. We’ve got a few on hand, both 3’ and 4’ and all are imbued with stoke (and some with resin 😅) these are great to have if you’re interested in a kit build, shaping and repairs. DM or swing by the shop if interested

All packed up and ready to go! We’ve filled a trailer with all the goods for the crew up north, and will be spending a few days in the great state of Maine at the Surf Re-Evolution event is throwing with the help of many friends. Excited to see everyone, old friends and new, and stoked for some fresh southeast swell!

We will consequently be closed until our return on Tuesday, September 13th. To all who have stopped by recently, we appreciate the well wishes and love, and if you haven’t been able to stop in we’ll be here for a few more weeks, with our final board building workshop just a few days after our return! Swing on in, we’d love to see you 🤙♥️

If you want to build a board with us, our FINAL workshop will be held September 15-18, there is still some room! Sign up by Monday, September 5th to lock in your spot.

Great work on all the builds during our penultimate workshop, and many thanks to everyone who’s come through to share in the stoke. 👏👏🤙 excellent work Noah and Jerome on the 5’10 Waka, Dan on the 7’6” Sapling, and Phil on the 9’6” Root (forgiven for putting the nose down, as we know your chin’s up!)

And big shout out to all the future rippers absolutely crushing the skateboard builds, hope y’all have enjoyed cruising in the sun this week!

Although we’re looking at the final few workshops here at the shop, we cherish the memories we’ve had here on the East End, and continue to bringing the stoke for the process of building your own boards, and the true satisfaction of riding something you’ve built yourself.

Including the wave of life amirite?

Always looking forward to the next one, hope to see you there!

Turning back the clock today to a great shot of the opening scene from our old shop on 11 Indian Wells, where we first landed here in Amagansett, NY.

Lots of great memories in this space, and this shot features our now managers Theo’s first build, his 9’ Root….still sees the water pretty often.

For those of you who’ve signed up for the newsletter, you already know…it is with a heavy heart, wide open eyes, and pockets full of cherished memories that we announce our closure at the end of September.

Change is a part of life. While we relish all the memories and experiences that have come out of the shop, we are saddened to announce that after 7 years of serving the East End of Long Island, our Amagansett shop will be closing its doors at the end of the season. We have been blessed by an incredibly welcoming and supportive community and look forward to continuing the friendships made and catching more waves together.

We’ll be going through some of the most cherished memories from our time here on the east end of Long Island over the next few weeks, but in the meantime help us celebrate what we—and I mean all of us—have built together. Surfboards, friendships, skills and memories—things we will hold onto dearly for the rest of our life. BIG thank you to everyone who has come through our shop and supported us over the last seven years; from workshop participants, to artists featured on our walls, encouraging and helpful members of the community, and patrons—we couldn’t have done it without you!

We are still booking spaces for the remaining workshops scheduled, and want to help you build your dream board, sign up today!
