Update on this mare. I have decided to hold off on selling her at this time . Keep her in mind however, she will be listed later on .Sunfrost Passion is due March 29th with a Jets Last Payday baby. I am considering selling this mare only because she has so much potential and hasn’t had the opportunity to finish her career. She was campaigned for 6 months with Randee Prindle before I started breeding her. Running behind ole Red Man Jones she constantly ran in the 2D running 17th in the 1D at Winona Minnesota in her last run. Her dam, Sign of Passion had Earnings of $150,000. Her sire Bug In My Frosty had Progeny earrings of over $400,000.
She will be 11 this year so still can be competed on, or would make a great addition to anyone’s breeding program!
So depending on whether you want the baby will depend on her price. Pm for discussion

Oftentimes, we put a lot of onus on the balance of the front feet whilst disregarding that the horse is a quadruped with hind feet that require attention too.

The fallacy here is that if your horse's hind hoof balance is poor, i.e. they have low heels or negative plantar angles, they're going to be more inclined to overload their forehand to reduce the loading through the hinds.

It is very, very rare that I see a horse with good hind hoof morphology.

It is incredibly common that I see horses with indicators of negative plantar angle combined with at least two (but usually a handful) of the following:

- Chronic lumbar discomfort

- Chronic sacroiliac discomfort

- Atrophied gluteal muscles

- Atrophied quadriceps muscles

- Effusion around the stifles

- Diagnosis of hock arthritis

- Diagnosis of hind suspensory ligament desmitis (+/- recommendation for fasciotomy & neurectomy)

- Reactivity to palpation over proximal suspensory branches

- Reactivity to palpation over deep digital flexor tendon as it inserts into the hoof capsule

- Difficulty lifting hind legs.

What is even more farcical is that we bodywork, we medicate, we operate, we bash over the head with movement intervention...
.. And we are still SO slow to intervene with the feet??

And yet I have found that if you intervene with the hoof balance, you:

- Support greater muscular equilibrium: I find horses literally walk symmetrical muscle mass on without the need for an exercise plan!

- Restore joint range of motion, which improves joint comfort and longevity

- Perhaps (or in my experience often) reduce the discomfort in the suspensories, support their healing and can avoid surgery(!)

- Find the elusive sensation of "push" from behind when riding your horse.

So with all this in mind... why are we still so slow to catch on and do it?

-

📸 the superficial dorsal myofascial chain which connects to the solar surface of the hind hoof.

You can see how if we lower the plantar angle, we traction all along the horse's topline, collecting discomfort as we go.

For this month's webinar, I am delighted to be joined by the wonderful Beccy Smith of Holistic Equine, where she will be discussing what healthy hoof morphology really is, the factors that influence it and what you can do to help your horse.

Beccy is an Integrative Equine Podiatrist who truly considers the whole horse with respect to hoof health. Her keen eye and attention to detail is second to none in the hoofcare sphere and I cannot wait for this webinar!

After 21 wonderful years together and millions of milestones achieved, the inevitable day has arrived — our program’s cornerstone stallion, A Streak Of Fling, has been laid to rest at the age of 25.

We mourn the loss of “Streaker,” who was euthanized on September 5, 2024, after unexpected complications occurred during recovery from a scheduled surgery. We know many in the industry will mourn alongside us, but we find comfort in knowing he left this world on his own terms. We smile knowing Brian is welcoming him in Heaven with open arms. The arena is groomed, and the calves are ready to run a few more together.

Looking back, I can see how Brian and Streaker both beat the odds. Brian’s fight with glioblastoma, and how long he was able to live with it, was an incredible thing. And Streaker…well, there was no money behind him because we just didn’t have it to put there. We are one of the few programs that grew penny by penny in the beginning, and we managed to put it all together to build something really special.

What this stallion has done for us — how he has provided for us and allowed us to work together as a family — it’s hard to put a number on the value of that. No matter how high his progeny earnings climb, his importance to this family can never be quantified by numbers alone.

Streaker will be laid to rest at Fulton Performance Horses in South Dakota, where he will keep eternal watch over his band of broodmares, sons, and daughters — who will continue to influence the Western performance industry long after today.

With love,
Lisa, Jake and Laney, Jared, and John Lloyd Fulton.

RIP Streaker

Copied:
"I won't buy a weanling for that"

Then breed your own

"I won't buy a 2 year old for that"

Then breed your own and raise it for 2 years

"I won't buy a broke horse for that"

Then breed your own, raise it, and pay a trainer yourself

And again for the people in the back,
👏THEN👏 MAKE👏 ONE👏 YOURSELF👏

Your lack of budgeting is no longer everyone elses problem..... the horse market FINALLY has made it profitable to make nice horses, and if you don't support that, then you support garbage markets that led to the reduction in quality horses being made and an influx of low quality horses hitting slaughter pipelines.

Quality breeders are finally getting their dues

Support that.
