I got to spend the day with two IF&W biologists, Kevin Gallant and Tyler Grant, as they gathered data on the invasive northen pike. The IF&W does not manage for pike, but it is important for them to learn about the movement and growth of these non-native invasive fish. They set traps (which seemed similar to lobster traps) to catch, tag, weigh, measure length, note location, and then released them. If you catch a pike with one of these numbered tags, they ask that you please take a picture of it so that you can report it later. They rely on the public to report the tags as it is vital for their study on fish growth, survival, catch rate, species abundance, and movement patterns. You can report the tagged pike at this link:
