Over the Christmas break I got to work with some of my college pitchers. It was great to catch up with them and hear about their successes and failures and how they have worked through them.

Yes, sometimes you have to work through success as well as failure. Success can bring on new pressures and also negativity from haters. It’s all good though because these girls know how to block out the noise and focus on what’s important.

We have a few slots open for winter lessons. Lessons are now available in Gillespie or Marine IL.

Like most, I got into softball pitching due to my daughter’s desire to learn how to pitch. I have been a student of pitching for 18 years or so and my pursuit to learn and understand pitching has taken me to Chicago and Houston and some places in between to learn from a few of the best.

Our lessons are designed to train movement patterns of athletes to get them into positions to create more speed, spin and accuracy. Most importantly I want to get athletes into positions that are healthy.

Something stuck out to me this JR. High softball season. 90% of the pitchers that I saw were pushing up instead of pushing out toward the catcher. If your pitcher isn't driving her hips toward the catcher she is missing an opportunity to improve speed, spin and accuracy.

Turning the front foot is a common problem and a great way to kill a pitch from the start. The athlete must start in or understand how to get to a stable position to push from. This shouldn't take 1000's of reps or a drag box to correct.
