SSP Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program The Illinois Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program protects and promote the rights and quality of life of those who reside in long-term care facilities.

We serve 7 counties including; Madison, Bond, St. Clair, Monroe, Clinton, Washington and Randolph.

All of SSP, including the SSP Wellness Center, will be closed on Monday, September 5th, in observance of Labor Day.

The pandemic has highlighted the tragic impact of substandard conditions at nursing homes, which are home to many of our most at-risk community members. More than 1.4 million people live in over 15,500 Medicare- and Medicaid-certified nursing homes across the nation. In the past two years, more than 200,000 residents and staff in long-term care facilities have died from COVID-19—nearly a quarter of all COVID-19 deaths in the United States.

"Illinois' long-term care facilities are at a breaking point after hemorrhaging staff over the course of the pandemic.

Data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services shows 21% of Illinois’ long-term care facilities are experiencing a shortage of nursing staff, ABC7 Chicago reported.

Matt Pickering, executive director for Health Care Council of Illinois, said the industry is facing a perfect storm of problems and COVID-19 is at the top."

Learning how to navigate long-term care can be hard. There are often questions and concerns when we have a loved one in a long-term care home. Come join our State Long-Term Care Ombudsman program in a virtual gathering of residents and families in Illinois.
This group helps to educate and connect residents and loved ones.

Ombudsman seek regular presence in all long-term care facilities.
