We are deeply saddened by the loss of Dean Brown.

Dean was recently inducted into our Hall of Fame this past February, a well-deserved honor recognizing his contributions and legacy. We are grateful to have celebrated him and his accomplishments.

Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the Brown family and all who knew and loved him. He will be greatly missed.

In 1991, the Tracy H. Poindexter Award was created in honor of the late Tracy Poindexter โ€˜79. Each year, this award is given to one senior student-athlete who participates in three sports, is in good academic standing, and demonstrates a positive attitude. Garvin participated in Football, Basketball, and Track & Field. He has received All-District and All-Region, All State honors and even captured the 2025 Long Jump State Championship and scored his 1,000 point in basketball. Garvin will continue his academic and athletic career at Ferrum College.

Tracy is well known for the basketball career and track career that he had at Altavista. Poindexter is the 1st Player at Altavista to have scored 2,000 points and ended his career with 2,258 Career Points. And if you want to know about his track and field career check out the record board in the gym at Altavista Combined School. Poindexter was inducted posthumously into the Hall of Fame in 2021 (The Inaugural Class).
