𝐖𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐳𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐆𝐚𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐧 ‘𝟐𝟔 𝐨𝐧 𝐛𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐲 𝐇. 𝐏𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐱𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝.
In 1991, the Tracy H. Poindexter Award was created in honor of the late Tracy Poindexter ‘79. Each year, this award is given to one senior student-athlete who participates in three sports, is in good academic standing, and demonstrates a positive attitude. Garvin participated in Football, Basketball, and Track & Field. He has received All-District and All-Region, All State honors and even captured the 2025 Long Jump State Championship and scored his 1,000 point in basketball. Garvin will continue his academic and athletic career at Ferrum College.
Tracy is well known for the basketball career and track career that he had at Altavista. Poindexter is the 1st Player at Altavista to have scored 2,000 points and ended his career with 2,258 Career Points. Poindexter was inducted posthumously into the Hall of Fame in 2021 (The Inaugural Class).
