Our own Ralph Preziosi doesn’t just love to ski.

He started a non-profit organization to lead international trips so others could enjoy the sport, as well.

His Snow & Adventure Club of the Carolinas has been to Switzerland, Italy and Austria. The next destination is in March in France at the world’s largest ski resort, Marvelous Méribel Village at Les 3 Vallées in France from March 7 to 14.

Ralph has a few openings left for the trip, and he’s made it about as easy and affordable as possible for anyone to join, regardless of skiing ability. Contact him if you would like more information.

Lori Dalton had always been active, but something happened after she turned 62

“It just hit,” says Lori, now 67, a retired administrative assistant. “All of the joints and the muscles started to ache. It came out of nowhere and I worried it couldn’t be fixed. But it can be. It has been fixed.”

Now Lori has gained strength and confidence. And she’s golfing so well, her husband can’t believe the improvement.

Lori joined Alloy about eight months ago, hoping to feel, move, and look better.

“The scale just kept going up,” she recalls. “I had to do something else. I realized I had to do strength training, especially, at my age, for flexibility, getting up and down off the floor for my grandchildren.”

January means fresh starts, but sometimes just an experiment can be healthy, too.

Dry January has been growing since its 2012 launch as a British public health initiative. It’s not meant as a detox for people with alcohol dependency, but for those who want to take a break from imbibing.

Makes sense after the holidays, right? Health advocates say it’s helpful to take a break now and then for:

* Better sleep
* More energy
* Weight loss
* Clearer skin

Even among non-alcoholics, heavy drinking is rough on physical and mental health, increasing the risk of high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, liver disease, depression, anxiety and more.

Studies come out frequently that suggest no amount of alcohol is good for us.

Remember to Move a Bit Today

Some days aren’t about hitting it hard at the gym. But movement is still important and can even make a holiday more fun. Here are five simple ways to get in purposeful movement on any day, including a family holiday with a lot of sitting and eating.

1. Take a post-meal walk.
Just 15 minutes around the block. Bring along some of the family or a pet, or just enjoy a brief break alone.

2. Do a “commercial break” routine.
Every time there’s a TV break, do 10 squats, 10 counter push-ups, and 20 marching steps. Get everyone involved. It’ll be fun.

3. Get friendly with the floor.
Sit in a circle on the floor to open gifts. Get down there to play with kids (and back up again). Do a little stretching at some point in the day.

4. Note all the functional fitness of the day.
Squat to the low kitchen cabinets… Reach and twist to put away dishes… Crouch down to pick up wrapping paper.

5. Break out the new fitness gifts.
Did someone get resistance bands? Dumbbells? A virtual reality headset? Have fun!
