Filled with joy and sadness as Tupac moves on to the next phase of his life. We were honored to share the mats with him while he ground out his blue belt, and to be part of his journey while God moulds another legend of the faith.

Rad! Our head coach has competed with William before! Come train with the best!

The Ingham County Sheriff’s Office is pleased to announce our own, Deputy Vincent, placed 3rd in the Master’s Level Heavyweight Division (202lbs) at the World IBJJF Jiu-Jitsu No-Gi Championship.

This competition was established in 2007 and has become the top annual tournament for No-Gi Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BJJ), organized by the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF).

The 2025 event was the largest yet, with over 4,000 athletes. The matches are submission-based.

Deputy Vincent is a two year veteran of ICSO and serves as a Subject Control / Critical Skills Instructor. Vincent also serves as an Effective Fitness Combatives Staff Instructor.

We are proud of Deputy Vincent’s performance and proud to have him fly the ICSO colors during the tournament.

True!

Only Post Perfection…

It seems like the overwhelming majority of the time on social media, folks just want to post perfection. Whether that’s their life, a scenario, or a product, it always seems to be perfect or damn near. That’s not reality.

The amount of failures and times I’ve been put on my ass throughout my career and life are countless. I believe that as instructors, highlighting some failures along with successes is important.

First, highlighting failures demonstrates humility, and in my experience, the best instructors possess that.

Second, it gives you the opportunity to highlight the lesson learned from the failures and perhaps then highlight the successes that occurred from those lessons learned.

This particular failure, some would say, was not acceptable. This was after a long FMP scenario that ended with a barricaded hostage situation. I drew the short straw by being the only man on the door. This was not intentional, just the way the flow happened, as we did not know exactly where the “hot spot” was in a relatively large industrial business building. The threat was at depth, somewhat concealed, and the room was pitch black. I obviously took a solid bump.

Anyone want to guess if I ran the rabbit or went to the unknown? 😂
