🌧️ Pool Update 🌧️

Well… after a late start to the season while we worked to get lifeguards in place, Mother Nature has now decided she also wants a turn at delaying pool time. 😅

Due to low temperatures and expected rain, the Alexandria City Pool will be closed today.

Thank you for understanding, we’ll be ready to make a splash again as soon as the weather cooperates!

Due to an insufficient number of certified lifeguards needed to safely operate the facility, the pool will not open this Saturday as originally planned.

The safety of our patrons is our top priority, and we are committed to ensuring proper staffing and supervision before opening for the season. Several individuals are currently completing lifeguard certification requirements, and we are hopeful the delay will be temporary.

Many individuals have been working around the clock to find solutions to this issue. With so many moving parts involved, it has been difficult to provide accurate information until now, and we appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as plans continue to develop.

The Alexandria Parks Department is also working with an instructor to organize a lifeguard certification class here in Alexandria to help provide additional training opportunities for interested individuals.

We remain hopeful that the season will begin soon and are committed to providing a safe and enjoyable environment for our community this summer. Updates regarding an opening date will be shared as soon as they become available.

If you know someone age 15 or older who may be interested in becoming a lifeguard, please contact the Mayor’s Office for more information.

If you haven’t walked Beulah Park on an early, sunny morning, put it on your to-do list. The air is fresh, the birds are singing and the trees cast shadows for yards. The peaceful quiet is sometimes broken by the sounds of a train passing along the northern border, but even that’s nostalgic and adds to what makes Alex so special.

The high today is predicted to be less than 60, but look how warm the Beulah Park walking path looks. Maybe three dozen walkers are daily regulars. Friendly people, fresh air, sunshine, beautiful scenery. See you on a stroll later today...maybe tomorrow?

Arbor Day was the ideal time to plant the “America 250 Alexandria Liberty Tree” in Beulah Park, in celebration of the nation’s 250th anniversary. The public was invited to the event and encouraged to wear colonial garb or red, white and blue. Attendees tied patriotic ribbons to the Liberty Tree, on the Emery Lee Auditorium south lawn, in memory of veterans from Madison County.
