In March, all three of Alyssa Pace's boys got strep throat.

She was not worried. Strep throat is strep throat. You treat it, you wait it out, and your kids get better. Her other two sons did exactly that.

Boston did not get better.

The headaches kept coming. The vomiting kept coming. Alyssa, 27, a mother of three from Dry Prong, Louisiana, brought her 7-year-old back to the doctor. Tested negative for strep again. The doctor said it was probably a virus draining his sinuses.

Then it was May and Boston was still sick.

By early June, a different doctor suggested it might be heat related. Boston played baseball. Kids get dehydrated in the Louisiana summer. Keep him inside. Keep him hydrated.

The headaches kept coming.

On June 14, Alyssa stopped waiting for answers and drove Boston to the emergency room. Doctors ordered a CT scan of his brain.

Then a doctor walked into the room.

"There was something on the CT," the doctor told her. "It was on Boston's brain."

Alyssa said she was in complete shock. She still did not understand the severity of what she was being told.

Then came the diagnosis.

Diffuse midline glioma. Formerly called DIPG. An aggressive brain tumor growing inside the central structures of the nervous system, the brainstem and the thalamus. The same diagnosis that has appeared in these pages before. The same one that took other children. One of the most devastating words in pediatric oncology.

Boston's life expectancy is less than a year.

He was a perfectly healthy child in February. He had zero health issues, his mother said. He got strep throat in March along with his brothers.

He has now completed six weeks of radiation therapy. Alyssa described watching her 7-year-old go through it as truly a nightmare.

But she is not without hope.

"We have faith that God will turn this around for Boston and for many others who are fighting this diagnosis."

Boston Pace is 7 years old. He loves baseball. He is the oldest of three brothers. And his mother is asking the world to pray for a miracle that medicine alone cannot promise.

Please stop and pray for Boston and Alyssa tonight.

Share this so Boston's name reaches every prayer warrior who can lift it up.
