We’ve been so busy. But, we got to wash up the jeep (cleanest it’s been in who knows how long) and show it in the local car show. We had a great time explaining our bed system and on board kitchen set up Kaylynn, Dad, and I built

Spring time in the North Alabama Mountians:

Whippoorwills sing.
The crickets sing.
The pines reflect the golden amber as the sun hides slowly behind the dark blue ridges of the mountain peaks.
Wild blue berries bloom, blackberries bloom.
The knock of the woodpeckers echo up through the holler.
A long winter has past showing the beauty of the southern most point of the Appalachian Mountain Range.
This is the land we love. This is home.

So this is what me and my dad Huey Elkins have been working on the past few weekends. Our outdoor kitchen. Also doubles as a luggage carrier when the kitchen box is removed. When opened, I have a small pan for a sink and a camping stove, and storage underneath. There is also a net in the lid for storage for food or paper goods etc. glad to finally have it done and hope to put it to the test soon. Big thanks to my dad for letting me use his shop and helping and teaching me through the whole project.

So I’ve had a few people ask where have we been because we haven’t posted in awhile… well, I’ve been in the shop almost every weekend working on the latest modification to the jeep (coming soon). But we got to get out of the shop for one weekend and spend time in South Carolina on the lake. We climbed Table Rock Mountain, over 7 miles. Some of the most beautiful views and am glad my wife was willing to conquer the trek with me. It most definitely was a memorable trip and a record hike for Kaylynn.

Just stopping for lunch while hunting for a campsite that has a power hookup to stay warm! Only one campground was open for the season with improved camping. On top of the mountain, we drove to the top of Cheaha twice finding a place to camp. We finally settled at Cheaha State Park to sleep for the night.

When the temperature is well below freezing (which is like the Arctic North to us Alabamians) we got a backup… we find a campground with power, and plug in! With a 110v outlet on the inside, we got the heater keeping it nice and warm. We can plug in our cell phones or laptop. We’re currently looking into off grid heating so we can stay warm while primitive camping.
