It’s a Hoedown!
Sunday night’s Raise the Roof Hoedown was a real hoot! The food was delicious, especially Terry Locke’s marinated barbecue chicken. You know it was good when only one piece remained and four people stood drooling over it, hoping to be the lucky one!
Friends talked, families laughed, children played, and then came the square dancing!
Who knew our congregation had so many talented dancers? Some of us weren’t sure we had the coordination or even the right number of feet! But soon we were swinging partners, do-si-doing, and dancing like old pros!
The Albuquerque Square Dance Club members were wonderful partners and patient teachers. And our congregants? We were pretty darn good!
And those petticoats! Clouds of flouncy blue and black billowed and bounced with every twirl, turning the dance floor into a whirl of color. (Misha watched from the sidelines, imagining a bright red petticoat swirling beneath her cherry-print square dance dress. Maybe next time!)
What a wonderful reminder of the joy of gathering, sharing good food, and trying something new together!
Behind all the fun was an important purpose. Thanks to matching grants, generous donations, and our Hoedown, we now have $30,000 toward our structural engineering survey! This is a tremendous first step toward understanding our building’s condition, potential repair costs, and the choices ahead. With good information, our congregation can make thoughtful decisions about B’nai Israel’s future.
A huge thank-you to everyone who cooked, contributed, danced, and volunteered. We’re not just raising the roof, we’re helping build a future for B’nai Israel!

A little video of our newest square dance class and club angels cutting a rug out on the floor as the new class practices what they are learning each week. Square dance is a great way to get some exercise, and to meet new people and make new friends! So if you have been looking for something that will help you get your steps in and be social , this could be the activity for you! Look for upcoming open houses, and then sign up for the next class which usually starts In January 😊😁

Duke City SD Club had a great time dancing at the WHEELS Museum! It may have been warm, and squeezing two squares into a cozy space made things interesting, but the laughter, fun, and great company made it a fantastic event.

We had a blast at the Duke City Square Dance Open House…some pictures of all the fun you missed if you weren’t there! But you don’t have to be sad because lesson start on July 23 and run from 7 to 9 PM and even better. The first lesson is free so you can still come and try Square Dancing , you know you want to! It is great exercise and a great way to make new friends and learn a new skill. Hope to see you all this Thursday at the Albuquerque Square dance center located at 4915 Hawkins St. NE. in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Danna on July 1. She will be remembered and missed by all who knew her. The family will inform us of any future gatherings or opportunities to come together in remembrance of Danna.
