In this morning's email:
Dear All,
One of the hard things during this time is the tough decisions we all have to make. It is my regret to inform you that last night, the SCKF Board of Directors has decided to shut down ALL SCKF events for the rest of 2020 including tournaments, seminars and practices....with the option to change if safety permits. This decision was made so SCKF can do our part to fight this pandemic. Governor Newsom has stated that as of this past Friday, we are in Stage 2 of a plan where Stage 4 will be when high risk events can take place. Kendo is a high risk activity and it is unknown when Stage 4 will happen. Furthermore, Los Angeles is one of the biggest hotspots of COVID-19 in the country.
I do think when we are officially in Stage 3, we can start normal keiko at the dojo level but that would depend on your dojo and the local government. Obviously, we should add precautions to our dojo practices and guidelines will be sent at that time.
Also, FYI...AUSKF is renewing our liability insurance this month. For those dojos that are currently doing "zoom" keiko, it is prudent that all participating kenshi are active AUSKF members since the liability insurance also covers these zoom keikos.
I want to thank all my fellow SCKF Officers, Dojo Representatives and Advisors for all your support during this tough time. It makes me feel confident that the dreams of our youth will continue along with the advancement of our kendo.
Sincerely,
Kevin Tadasu Abe
SCKF President
