🌙🍂Held Within the Circle
When we look at a circle, we may simply see a shape, but in fact, the circle is one of humanity’s oldest and most enduring sacred symbols. More than that, the circle is a beautiful reminder of the cyclical rhythms of life. Because it has no clear beginning or end, it evokes a sense of wholeness and continuity. To our ancestors, it became a representation of birth and death, darkness and light, seasonal change, and the movements of the heavens.
🪷
As Desert Lotus completes another circle with the closing of our 7th year as a community, there is indeed a sweet and tender sense of wholeness. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the space opened in the autumn, a season so robust and full and that this community has become just that, ripe and overflowing with connection and sincerity.
🪷
There is rarely a day that goes by where we are not told of the impact the studio has had on you. Old friendships rekindled by running into someone from the past, the feeling of truly being seen and cared for, the excellence of our instructors. But what I really have to say is that you have had a vast and immeasurable impact on us, too. By showing up, you give us purpose, you give us companionship, you give us a place to express our love, our creativity, and our knowledge of Yoga. Ours is a symbiotic relationship, one where your gifts meet our gifts in an ongoing circle of great love and respect.

Thank you for being with us as we enter our 8th cycle of service. We hope to continue to hold space for you and to share a practice that has the power to change the world!

✨🌔A Note On Seeking
Rumi is quoted as saying, “What you seek is seeking you.” These words beautifully capture the truth that human beings often spend their lives longing for something they can rarely name.
🪷
Before becoming one of the world’s most beloved mystics, Rumi was an established and respected religious scholar. In his midlife, he experienced a friendship and a series of life events that shattered the certainty of the life he had built. Through profound love, loss, and longing, he was transformed. The story of Rumi is so relatable, it is a path many of us know well. We are taught to create lives of safety, predictability, and certainty despite there being no guarantee any of these things will prevent pain. We build structures that we are sure will protect us, but then something comes along that awakens a longing within us to feel more alive, more connected, more authentically ourselves.
🪷
Perhaps this is what Rumi meant. The longing becomes the invitation. The ache calls us away from the illusion of safety we have created and pulls us forward.
🪷
And yet, this is where the beautiful endeavor of seeking becomes nuanced, where it runs that risk of becoming an unattainable, insatiable longing. When unchecked, the search for deeper meaning can rob us of joys that exist in who we already are, in what we already know to be true.
🪷
With the recent full Blue Moon in Sagittarius, a sign tied to the archetype of the Seeker, I found myself reflecting upon my own relationship to seeking. While I came away with no concrete answers, I did discover an unexpected longing–a longing for rest. A longing to pause the search and rest in gratitude for the many gifts already received. I invite you to explore these ideas in your own life. What are you seeking? Where is there room for unquestioned knowing? Where is there space for rest?

❤️‍🔥 Tending the Inner Flame
There is an old tradition from across the ages that reminds us we are not meant to begin again from nothing each day, but to carry something forward. This is expressed most poignantly through fire-keeping. Across ancient cultures, people didn’t recreate warmth from scratch; instead, they preserved it. They would bank coals beneath ash or tuck them into the earth, protecting a small, steady glow so it could endure through time. When needed, it wasn’t forced back into life, but gently coaxed, given air and space, and encouraged to rise again. There’s something deeply reassuring in the reminder that continuity doesn’t require constant intensity, only care.
🪷
I think about the stories of people traveling with a single living coal, carrying it across distance so the community’s warmth would never disappear. That small ember held more than heat—it held memory, lineage, and spirit. To tend to it was an act of devotion, a promise that something essential would not be lost. It shifts how I understand resilience. It isn’t always about pushing forward or staying bright. Sometimes it’s about protecting what matters most, even when it looks small, even when no one else can see it.
🪷
In times of uncertainty, we might return to this image. Not all growth needs to be visible or expansive. As we enter the fullness of this season, we begin the quiet work of tending and keeping close to what is alive, even if it’s only a faint glow. Growth, then, becomes an act of trust and a willingness to protect what is not yet ready to be seen. As we enter this season of growth, it is enough to tend to the our inner fire safe, to keep it steady, and to believe in its return.
