We did want to share that while the *starting* pay may seem low, it is just that *starting* and is dependent on your childcare experience, availability, and work ethic.

🕒 Position: Part-Time
Current hours are part-time, with the possibility of developing into full-time hours.

💰 Starting Pay: $10–$12/hour, depending on experience

QUALIFICATIONS

🌈 18 years or older with previous childcare experience
OR
🌈 21 years or older if you do not have previous childcare experience

Applicants must be willing and able to complete a background check.

There is a sentence we’ve been talking about a LOT lately at Uwharrie Play Oasis:

Behavior is communication. 🌈

Young children aren’t born knowing how to share, wait for a turn, handle disappointment, control an impulse, use kind words when they’re angry, transition away from something they love, or calm their bodies when their emotions get BIG.

Those things have to be taught.

And if we expect children to learn them, we believe the adults caring for them should know how to teach them.

That’s why we’re introducing an expanded Positive Guidance & Behavior Policy at Uwharrie Play Oasis—and providing dedicated training for our staff on how to put it into practice every day.

Our approach recognizes that an 18-month-old, a 2-year-old, and a 4-year-old should not automatically receive the same response for the same behavior.

We’re training our teachers to understand development, respond calmly and consistently, set clear boundaries, use appropriate logical consequences, recognize when a child needs help regulating, support neurodivergent children and individual needs, document patterns, and work alongside families when additional support is needed.

And yes—we still have rules and boundaries.

Positive guidance doesn’t mean allowing children to hurt others or do whatever they want.

It means when we stop an inappropriate behavior, we don’t stop teaching there.

We ask:

What happened?
What does this child need right now?
What skill are they missing?
What can we teach them to do instead?

Because our goal isn’t simply to have children who behave for us.

Our goal is to help children develop the skills to make good choices, communicate their needs, regulate their emotions, solve problems, build relationships, and safely participate in the world around them.

They’re learning how to be people.

We consider it a pretty important job to help them do that. 🤎
