Counter Strikes International

Counter Strikes International We offer family friendly martial arts classes and firearms safety training for all ages. Welcome to Counter Strikes International.

Since 1993 we have provided professional training nationally to offer the best services in North Albany, Oregon in the beautiful Willamette Valley. The studio is 3,000 square feet with a matted main room and adjoining room with a hard wood floor, as well as a surround sound system equipped with a mounted screen and projector. The heated and air-conditioned facility offers a nice pro shop and plent

y of room for spectators. The private property affords safety to students, their families, and possessions, and is just shy of 7 acres with both wildlife, scenery, and an ample, well-lit parking lot. We have an amazing obstacle course which is a special feature for classes and our popular boot camps. Our wide range of classes includes firearms safety for adults and children, specialized law enforcement courses, and civilian martial arts for ages 2 into adulthood. We host many events ranging from potlucks, tournaments, community care, and teambuilding courses. Our staff is professional, highly trained, and many have completed Train the Trainer courses. Whether a class is held at our studio or an off-site location, our goal is simple: make it applicable, make it affordable, and make it fun. If you have a question about CSI or would like to book a course, never hesitate to contact us.

We are blessed to have 7 levels of instructors.

Kaila Brandt, a student of 10 plus years, has been promoted to Certified Instructor. Lesson plans, teaching methodology, class set up along with forms and fitness, are her fortes.

Rachel Streitberger, a student of over 24 years, to Chief Instructor. Rachel often leads classes and is in charge in my absence. This is an honor she has earned with loyalty, perseverance, on going training and leadership.

Earning a black belt is truly the start. Not all will ever become instructors nor should they be.

Kaila and Rachel serve as the epitome of excellence in helping make the school above others. 🙂

Kind regards,

It was an absolute blessing to have so many people reach out and wish me a happy birthday. Some spirits, ci**rs, cookies and fish for gifts along with a tasty cake. I also had another surprise.

In November of 2025 I was promoted to my 7th Dan. I shared this information with only a few as it was not on my bucket list. However, my mentor and instructor felt it should happen. Upper belts in all arts typically require time and grade. I am certainly not the martial artist I was in 1987, thinking I might actually compete in the Olympics.

The Can/Am Games were a highlight of my career. Vancouver, B.C. was a true eye opener, two countries with immense talent. However, now I am much wiser. On March 17th (cool day), a group of my black belts formally presented me my certification. I was trying to get my butt out of the studio and get some ice on my knee, but I guess they had other plans.

A video from my instructor was played, telling the students and crowd why I am worthy. Very humbling indeed. 42 years ago, I was not even considering a yellow belt, and here we are today. I was also given a nice leather book with the CSI logo and my name on it.

It contained notes from current students and some black belts all the way back from the early ‘90s. Stories, comments and sincere appreciation. While this was not what I wished for, I must say I’m deeply honored, very touched and indeed blessed.

Why do we do that during warm ups?

🥋 Why do we rotate ankles, wrists, and do small stretches before martial arts?
It might look simple—but those small movements play a BIG role in training safely and effectively.

🔄 We’re lubricating the joints
Rotations help move synovial fluid through the joints so everything moves smoothly—especially important for kicks, punches, and quick direction changes.

💪 We activate stabilizing muscles
Your wrists and ankles rely on small support muscles. Warming them up improves balance, control, and helps protect your joints during impact.

⚡ We improve range of motion (the right way)
Dynamic, gentle stretches help your body move freely without reducing power—so you can kick higher and move faster.

🛡️ We help prevent injuries
Cold joints + fast movement = higher risk of sprains and strains. A proper warm-up prepares your body to handle the work ahead.

🧠 We wake up the brain-body connection
These movements improve coordination, reaction time, and precision—key for both forms and sparring.

🎯 We build better technique
When your joints are ready, your movements are cleaner, stronger, and more controlled.

👉 Bottom line:
Small movements first… so your body is ready for big movement.
