We had a pretty good meet at River Ridge on Monday April 20th despite the cold temperature. Wyatt, Brooks, and Kaleb all won individual events at the meet. Wyatt threw a career best by over ten feet in the discus. Brooks also ran a career best in the 400m. Kaleb ran a season best in the 1600m. The 3200m relay team of Beckett, Brooks, Casey and Noah also won.
Kamden finished second behind his brother with a career best in the 1600m. Kamron jumped a season best in long jump to finish second. Beckett and Noah also finished second in the intermediate hurdles and 800m run. Our third place finishers were Noah in high jump and our mile relay team consisting of Casey, Kaleb, Kamden, and Kamron.
We had a boys 4 X 200m relay team for the first time this season, and they finished fourth. Kamron had a season best in shot put outdoor throwing over 35 feet and finishing fifth, and Wyatt Smith also had an outdoor best throwing over 31. Casey had a season best in triple jump finishing seventh.
Overall, the boys had a good meet with the temperatures getting pretty cold at the end.

The girls had a lot of good performances on a cold Monday night in River Ridge. Ali Flood was our only winner throwing a career best by seven feet in the discus. Ali also finished second in shot put. Also finishing second was Lydia running a season best in the 1600m run. Our girls 4 X 200m relay team consisting of Kylie, Piper, Amirah, and Tatum finished second and ran our fastest time of the year by over five seconds.
We had a few third place finishes including an impressive 800m run by Tatum running a career best. Emma was also third with an outdoor season best in long jump. We split our mile relay teams up for this meet where one team was third, and the other team finished fourth. Also finishing fourth, running right next to Tatum in the 800m was Piper with a great 800m run. Emma also finished fourth in the 400m running an outdoor season best.
We had some impressive fifth place finishes including a great 1600m run by Ellie Smith in her first time running that event. She keeps improving each week as she gets healthier. In the field events, Raegan jumped a career best just missing 12 feet in long jump, and Aubrie improved her career best in discus throwing over 72 feet. Raegan also finished fifth in high hurdles as she and Ali ran the hurdles to get ready for the Boscobel meet on Thursday.
One of our best performances on the track was a sixth place finish by Priscilla in the 400m run improving her time by about three seconds. Both teams will compete at the Bulldog relays in Boscobel on Thursday.

The boys had a lot of great performances at Cambridge on a night where the weather wasn’t bad, but a little cold at the end. Beckett was our lone champion winning the 300m hurdles, running a little faster than Monroe. We had two second place finishes with Kamron actually tying for first in triple jump, however, he ended up second on the tiebreaker. Kamron had a very good jump equaling his distance at Monroe, unfortunately on his last jump he spiked himself when he landed, so he wasn’t able to compete the rest of the meet. He did try one long jump attempt, but was in too much pain. Our boys 4 X 800m relay also finished second with a season best time.
Our mile relay team finished third with a great race running a time we haven’t run since sectionals in 2024. It will be fun to see where this team ends up, I think this team has a lot of potential.
We had a couple fourth place finishes in the distance races. First, was Brooks running a career PR in the 1600m just missing breaking 5:00. This came after Brooks ran the 4 X 800m so I am confident Brooks will be under the next time he runs it. Kaleb also finished fourth in the 3200m, his time wasn’t as fast as the Monroe meet, but he ran his second mile a lot faster than his first, so that was impressive.
We had three more point scorers in the meet, with Kamron finishing fifth in long jump on his only jump due to pain in his foot from spiking himself. Our lone seventh place finish was one of our best performances of the night with Kamden Broughton running a great 3200m, his time was basically the same as his career best, which he ran at Deerfield last season. I’m excited to see where he will be at Deerfield this season! Noah had a eighth place finish in the high jump clearing 5-4, which wasn’t bad considering how long he had to wait to jump.
We also had a great day in the throws with a couple of big PRs in the discus. Wyatt threw a career PR by over ten feet going over 100 feet in his first outdoor meet this year. It’s great to see him throwing that far this early in the season. Freshman Izayah also improved his PR by almost ten feet, which was great to see. These two also had a good day a shot put. Wyatt had a power throw of just under 31 feet, which actually would be a career PR for him outdoor! Again, he is way ahead of where he was at the end of last year. Izayah also improved his outdoor PR by throwing almost a foot farther than Monroe. Hopefully he will continue to see improvement each week.
This meet was Casey's first meet of the year after spending a couple weeks a little too far away to make the meets, so we were planning on him doing individual events to find out where he was at, but after Kamron got hurt the plan for him quickly changed. He had an impressive debut in the 400m, running a great first 300m, then running out of gas a little bit, but still ran very well. I believe at regionals last year in the mile relay, he broke a 1:00, and he ran 1:01 in the open, so he will get better at that event each week. Then instead of running another individual event, he ran another 1:01 in the mile relay, which ended up third. He also got a good start in triple jump, we just need to work more on consistent approaches and then extending his phases and improvement will come in that event as well.
We are scheduled for two meets next week, so hopefully the weather will cooperate because I am looking forward to more improvement from the athletes!

The girls had a very good meet at the Cambridge Invite. We had two relays finish second with pretty impressive times compared to where we were a year ago. The 3200m relay time was the fastest since sectionals 2024, so that’s great to see. For our mile relay, our time was a couple seconds off our fastest time in 2025, which was at the sectional meet, so also very encouraging.
It’s not normal for us to fill all four relays because of low numbers, but even with our injuries we were still able to fill all the relays, and had some impressive legs on our sprint relays plus we had a lot of freshman getting relay experience, so I’m certainly encouraged that can become a lot better.
In individual events, Emma ran her fastest time of the year finishing fourth in the 800m. Our best event of the night was discus where Ali threw over 80 feet for the first time this year, not that far off her career PR. Tatum basically equaled her season best, and Aubrie Bartelt threw a career best going over 70 feet for the first time in her career.
Other highlights from the meet was Priscilla running a season best in the 400m, and then running a good 200m. She has been injured, so it was good to see her run well less than 100 percent. Another big PR came in the 800m, where Ellie improved her time by just under ten seconds. Colee also improved her best long jump going over 11 feet for the first time this year. She also competed in triple jump for the first time this year, and got off to a good start.
Now hopefully the weather will cooperate and we can get two meets in this week.

DISCUS - IZAYAH SCOTT - 57-2

The boys had a very good meet at the Glendenning Invite in Monroe. On the track, Brooks Wachholz had two very good splits in both relays including leading off our 3200m relay that finished first. He is basically at where he finished last year, and it’s the first outdoor meet, so it will be fun to see where he is at by the end of the season. Kaleb Broughton also had a very good meet lowering his 800m time in the relay and breaking 11:00 in the 3200m run in his first outdoor meet. He also ran a good leg in the mile relay right after the 3200m. Beckett Wachholz made his season debut in the 300m hurdles, and had a pretty good start to season with them. He also ran a very good leg in our mile relay. Kamden Broughton was dealing with a back issue, but still ran pretty well in the 3200m relay. Kamron Parker led off our mile relay and improved his split from the indoor meet.
However, Kamron had a great day jumping just missing 19-0 in long jump and going over 39 feet in triple jump. Kamron definitely took advantage of the weather, but hopefully he can carry the jumping success to the next meets. Izayah got his outdoor season off to a good start in the throws. He will keep getting better as he gets more practice in.

AUBRIE BARTELT - 7TH PLACE -24-10

DISCUS - TATUM DOESCHER - 7TH PLACE 74-4.50
ALI FLOOD - 71-11
AUBRIE BARTELT - 66-7

The girls had a very good meet at the Glendenning Invite as well. Ali Flood was our lone winner throwing over 30 feet, which is an outdoor PR for her. She is off to a great start! Aubrie Bartelt also threw a PR in shot in her first outdoor meet, so it’s great to see these results in our first outdoor meet. In discus, Tatum Doescher threw well, just missing her PR from the end of last year by a couple feet. Aubrie Bartelt also had a career PR in discus by a couple feet. Ali was disappointed in her throw, but what she doesn’t realize is she didn’t throw over 70-0 in discus last year til our seventh outdoor meet.
We also had another great performance in field events last night as Raegan Hollis had a great night jumping tying her PR of 4-6. Piper Patchen also had a good night jumping clearing 3-10, just missing 4-0. That’s pretty remarkable considering we haven’t practiced landing in pits yet.
We also had some great performances on the track, in the 3200m relay, all four girls ran their fastest 800m of the season. This relay is way ahead of where we were last year. In the 100m, Ali got off to a good start considering she was over 15 seconds for the first half of the season last year. With no sprint relays yesterday, Isabelle ran the 100m to work on her start and speed for the 200m. The 400m was a great event for us yesterday, as Tatum and Piper finished third and fourth overall. Tatum is pretty close to her PR from last year already and Piper had a great race to finish right behind her. Ellie also had a good debut in the 400m as she works her way back from injury. Lydia was pretty tired for the 1600m as she didn’t have much time after running a great leg in the 3200m relay, but she still was only four seconds off what she ran the other day when she was fresh, so not a bad race at all. For the 200m, Raegan and Isabelle both ran season bests, so hopefully they can continue to get stronger and faster as the season goes on. We had a good end to the meet in the mile relay, running a season best by a couple tenths, which actually pretty significant when you consider that Emma didn’t run on this relay. This relay went to sectionals last year, and I don’t know if we can do that again, but I do believe we will be a lot faster in it this year. Now we got some time to focus on practice and get ready for our next meet in 11 days.

WYATT SMITH - 32-8
IZAYAH SCOTT - 23-6.75

The boys had a good first meet to begin their season. We had a lot of good performances, and ended up scoring some points against some very good competition. Our boys 3200m relay consisting of Beckett Wachholz, Noah Lisser, Kaleb Broughton, and Brooks Wachholz finished second running a pretty good time for the first meet of the year. Their time wasn’t that far off our fastest time of the year from last year, so that was encouraging. Kaleb Broughton also finished third in the 3200m run with a pretty good indoor time to start the year. Kamron Parker had our other third place finish in triple jump missing out on first by only six inches. Pretty remarkable since we haven’t jumped into a pit yet. He also had a sixth place finish in the long jump going over 18-0. Kamron also led off our fourth place 1600m relay time, which finished fourth running faster than we did at the indoor meets last season. Kamron teamed up with Beckett Wachholz, Noah Lisser, and Brooks Wachholz. Speaking of not jumping before the meet, Noah Lisser landed on a mat for the first time on Saturday, and had some very good jumps finishing in seventh place.
Kamron also led our throwers on a very impressive first meet. Kamron threw a little bit last year early in the season, and after practicing a little bit this week, we thought it would be worth it to put him in. He threw three feet farther than last year even though last year he didn’t throw much knowing we had three throwers already. The performance of the meet came in the throws from Wyatt Smith improving his career PR by over six feet in his first meet of the year! I have been very impressed with Wyatt at practice the first two weeks, It will be fun to see where he ends up! Izayah Scott also got his rookie season off to a good start in throws as well.
Kamden Broughton ran the same time in the mile as last year, however, this year’s race was a lot more impressive as he ran his second half a lot faster than his first half, which normally doesn’t happen especially early in the season. He also came back and ran a pretty good 800m.

The girls also got their season off to a good start competing against a lot of state caliber athletes from Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin. The meet got off to a good start with our 3200m relay team finishing third running a time that was about 45 seconds faster than last year. Emma, Tatum, and Lydia had all been part of the relay last year, but for this meet we had to find a fourth to run it, I thought Piper Patchen would be capable of running a 800m, and for never training for a 800m, she ran a very impressive leg on our relay! The other thing to consider is only Lydia has practiced for more than a week! Emma continued her first meet by jumping over 14-0 feet in long jump placing sixth, finishing seventh in the 400m, and teaming up with Ali, Lydia, and Tatum in the 1600m relay to finish seventh. She did more than I planned on her doing, but she said her legs were ok for the mile relay. Lydia and Tatum also ran good legs in our mile relay.
Ali led off our mile relay, and was busy most of the meet, running the 55m dash, trying long jump for the first time in her career, and making finals in shot put with a throw of 28-9, which was less than an inch off her career PR at regionals last year! Her second best throw last year was 26-0, so a very impressive start to the season. Aubrie also got her season off to a good start in shot put and long jump as well.
It was great to see Isabelle Brewer competing again after her injury she suffered at Conference her sophomore year. She has been working hard and looked pretty good in the 200m, her favorite event! She also teamed up with Raegan, Piper, Amirah in the 4 X 200m.
Raegan also had a good day leading off our 4 X 200m relay, but before that she had a good start high jumping clearing 4-2, which was impressive considering we haven’t got mats out yet, and just got some rough steps this week to get her ready. What might be even more impressive is practicing hurdles for a couple of days, and deciding she is good to go for a meet.
Piper continued her impressive debut with a nice leg in the 4 X 200m relay. Amirah also ran well in the relay in her first meet of her HS career. She also got her career off to a good start in the 200m along with another freshman teammate Colee, who also got her rookie season underway running the 55m dash earlier. Ellie also got her first meet under her belt running the 800m. For our rookies, experience competing at a meet is the biggest thing for them. Hopefully they will want to keep improving every meet.
Overall, we had a good first meet. Now we have some starting points, so we can get better. Next meet back at UW-Platteville and outdoor meets coming up the following week.
