AND THEY ARE STILL SMILIN'

Districts 2026 proved to be the challenge that we anticipated! 68 golfers from 24 schools in the Southeast District gathered to start teeing off at 9:00 AM at the Crown Hill Golf Course. Our girls were coming off the course about 4:00 pm but there were still golfers on that course until about 6:00 pm. Whew!!! That's a BIG DAY OF GOLF!!

AND THEY ARE STILL SMILIN'

At the start, Grace, then Mada, then Lacey, then Greta and then Adison - one group after another until they all were out on the course. Golfing with complete strangers but all totally so much alike. Golfing with girls who had some past scores that made all my girl's eyes pop out of their heads. But...today this was Districts and a whole new golfing day. A new day that had the possibility of bringing every girl there to tears.

AND THEY ARE STILL SMILIN'

There were no tears from my girls on this day. OH VERY close but no real tears that I saw. I think I did a pretty good job of convincing them that it was an honor to be there and they were already the BEST in my eyes and true winners NO MATTER WHAT. SO out they went and boy were they tough all day long. Some HARD situations, some disappointing shots, some aggravating greens but BOY WERE THEY TOUGH.

Greta not feeling her best which she kept from me through most of her round and Adison with some pretty painful back pain that she also wouldn't say anything about until the last few holes made for a long day for those two Senior leaders.

So we landed in 10th place, last year we were 9th. Adison led the way with a 108, Greta with 119, Lacey with 124, Mada with 140 and Grace with 142. Super proud of this!! We had hoped for better but WE ARE STILL SMILIN'.

The celebration at the new Culvers in Lancaster was full of so much laughter and fun you would have thought we landed in 1st Place. It's been an AWESOME SEASON, with the MOST AWESOME GIRLS!! We are all winners of the BEST KIND!!

AND THEY HAVE THE BEST SMILES!

* A little side note but BIG to me: A very special life long friend came to watch the tournament. He had wanted to see a match all season but schedules would not line up. They finally did. He showed up at 9:00 and walked around that course the entire day following one of my girl's group all day. He was so impressed with the all the golfers. And especially my girls 😊 He was asked what golfer her was there watching and he said "Just watching." But also said his good friend is the Coach of Alex and he was there for her. We have loved this guy for so many years but I loved him a little more after yesterday. 😊⛳️🏌🏻‍♀️❤️

These 5! See those beautiful smiles! This is our team for the District Tournament Monday at Crown Hill GC. I'm so so proud of these girls! They said YES!!

You may think I'm a bit crazy but I always give them a choice before I put their names on the official roster of each tournament. I ask them "Are you a YES?!" - "Are you in 125%?!" "Don't do this for me, this is totally your decision!"

I have three requirements to go to tournaments other than being available. You have to be on the top 5 list of averages for that day. You have to be 125% willing, not just 100%, you need to carry an extra 25% for your teammates who may not be as confident. And last but not least, you have to be physically able, my judgement on that. Sometimes a girl wants to golf so bad but I'm 100% sure that knee or back or hand or foot or whatever will not make it. Yes there has been tears. But their health is WAY more important.

I have had some tough decisions in that past concerning these requirements but I strive to ALWAYS decide for the good of the team.

It's 18 HOLES with NO MERCY pick ups at District Tournament. These girls have played pick up at double par all season except Sectionals which was a cap of 12. This new rules scares some to death. Even when they haven't picked up in a VERY long time. I have seen some big scores for a hole, 17, 13, 12, from some very good golfers from some very good golf programs. Things happen!

It's COLD or HOT or WET or it's a very hard long course and it makes no difference, they still have to finish all 18 holes. I've heard so much in the past before hole 18, always right in the middle of the fairway- "I just want to go HOME!!" - "I'm having a PANIC ATTACK!" - "I HATE this game right now!" - "I just CAN'T HIT that stupid ball!" - "I NEED A MALL MALL COOKIE RIGHT NOW!" and ALWAYS with tears. But yet at the end of the day SMILES! 😀❤️

I never want to be responsible for any of this! It's has to be their decision. I will never make any girl golf anytime. A top Average, Willing 125% and Able! These are my girls Monday!! They SAID YES! And I have all the confidence in the world in ALL OF THEM!!

Good morning!! OHSAA GIRLS DISTRICT GOLF TOURNAMENT- Here we come!! Next Monday September 28th! Super excited and yes a little tired BUT SUPER EXCITED!

Yesterday was a challenge for sure! The storms and rain this summer! The heat! I know we all have had to deal and these girls are young and strong but I'm telling you it has been a season that has made golf very hard to enjoy for anyone and yesterday was yet another day of the elements.

Truthfully I just couldn't imagine the Sectionals being played yesterday but the coaches got a message late the day before that stated "All Sectional golf tournaments will be played Monday no matter how much rain has landed on the course!" Well that storm Sunday night sure put that statement to the test.

It took teams and golfers extra hours to get to Cliffside. Some having to turn around as many as 3-4 times trying other routes. Personally I had checked my nifty site OHGO and knew RT 7 was closed so when my bus driver started to turn that way following his faithful gps I stopped him and said not a good idea, let's try RT 32. We made it no problem.

BUT, one of my golfers could not make it to the bus because of high water so her sweet Dad would try his best to get her to Cliffside one way or another. On the bus was an Alternate golfer just in case. My new plan this year.

In the nic of time, Nina made it!! Grace was a Rock Star being a team player not knowing until the last minute if she would be golfing or not. Just another example of my selfless girls!! She will be playing in Districts!

Adison, Greta, Lacey, Nina and Mada teed off. One after the other in the mess and the muck, hole after hole, along with 38 other golfers from 13 other schools. At one point the rain coats and umbrellas came out but thankfully that storm left quickly with its lightning and thunder. It WAS WET! But I'm going to say the people at Cliffside did all they could do to make this doable to satisfy the OHSAA official ruling. Not one ball was hit until everyone was there safely.

About 4:00 all of my golfers had made the hard trek of the hardest 18 holes they ever golfed. 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM. That's right. With a quick break at the turn for a hot dog, chips and drink and a quick personal stop. 15 minutes at the most. Yep! That is how it works. No double par rule either like the season....you pick up at 12 strokes.

These girls, ALL OF THEM, are amazing aren't they!! Cliffside is NO PIECE OF CAKE! All in all though it was as good as it could be and many relaxed rules of getting your ball hitable were allowed.

Well they sure did HIT THAT BALL!
GRETA led the way... she finished with a 107!! 19 STROKES better than last year! AND She had an EAGLE ON #2!! EAGLE!! OUR FIRST EVER!! AND IT WAS SO WET!!!
Oh my gosh! I went BANANAS!😂 I am so so happy for this girl! She has worked so so hard for 4 years. She makes this 'ol Coach so so happy and proud. Gosh I'm gonna miss her so much!

Adison had a 122, that front 9 almost brought her to tears but she sure turned things around on the back 9 up that cliff. She finished like a champ with a big smile on her face. Cheering on her teammates like a true Senior leader. Oh yes, I sure am gonna miss her so much!

Lacey scored a 116... that is 14 STROKES better than last year! Man did she look good out there. She had been sick last week and battled some bad leg cramps near the end but she made it and did her part like she ALWAYS does.

Nina got underway with poise like none other as she rushed onto the scene last minute. She scored a 123.... 3 Strokes better than last year and steady as a rock. She had some great shots that on a dry day would have changed her score so much. We will miss her at Districts because of some family plans but you know golf isn't everything, family time matters!

Mada was our #5 playing her first ever 18 hole match. Oh did she ever work so hard and got that fear of 18 holes behind her on such an unfair day. She did awesome! She stayed strong and finished with pride. Boy I am so so proud of her. It was a tough 1st Sectional but I knew she had what it took to do it.

Each one contributing in their own SPECIAL way to give us another 2ND PLACE FINISH IN SECTIONALS to Qualify for DISTRICTS!
Score 468....that is 22 STROKES better than last year!!
Next Monday morning we head to Crown Hill GC.

2ND PLACE!!!! Heading to DISTRICTS AGAIN!!

Tomorrow morning at 9:00AM at Cliffside Golf Course these girls will be teeing off in the Sectional Tournament. The course and tournament organizer sent a message out today saying the tournament will be played no matter how much it rains on the course. Well this is going to be interesting considering what the last couple days have been like. But non the less I know one thing for sure these girls pictured below will play there hearts out. They are amazing young ladies who have worked so hard and played so well. The course will be tough and the weather unpredictable but they will give their all. I can only play 5 girls and I am taking an alternate to be there just in case who can help me help them throughout the day. All the others of the 16 will meet us for dinner afterwards and it will be a crazy hard full day. So wish us luck and I will keep you posted. Alex Girls Golf Team 😊⛳️🏌🏻‍♀️❤️😳🌧️

This is how much Gatorade the girls have went through this HOT season!! We have just enough left for tournaments. Such a perfect and thoughtful gift each season from one of our biggest fans and supporters and Alex alumni. He spoils us so much and we sure appreciate it so much!! Alex Girls Golf
