There is a wide variety of high vis gear available on the market for horses and riders in high traffic areas or low visibility. The important part is remembering to actually use it (although maybe not all at once as seen here), no safety equipment does its job from in the tack room!

Pepper is such a pretty girl especially when she’s all dressed up! These hot days are difficult to get much work done under saddle safely but they are a fantastic opportunity to practice turnout skills for events in cooler temperatures! Mane/tail braiding, tack cleaning, ways to make your horse shine like the stars they are and spend some quality time with our ponies.

Safety Sammy here with your Safety reminder of the week!

Even when it’s hot outside remember to wear your Personal Protective Equipment or PPE for short. It’s up to each horse and rider pair to determine what that entails for them, some horses need hoof boots to be safest, and some riders need to wear gloves to be safest, ask your coach or mentor to help you figure out the PPE setup that will best protect you both and then use it! Rain or shine, hot or cold it doesn’t do a lick of good sitting in the tack room.

Saddle fitting is one of many aspects of horsemanship where you need to be able to trust and communicate well with the other members of your team. Horseman + Horse are the main components of the team, but then they have their supporting team as well. This list includes your trainer, your veterinarian, your farrier, your saddle fitter, your chiropractor, your mentors, and on and on we can go. Since some folks around here have not yet had the pleasure to meet and get to know our saddle fitter (coming to teach a clinic this month on the 30th) here is an introduction from Cindy!

My name is Cindy Adcock and I am a MSA (Master Saddler Association) trained fitter. I have been working as a MSA trained fitter since 2011. I have worked with County Saddlery since 2011. My training consisted of multiple training sessions in Maryland where I learned some basics on biomechanics of both the horse and the rider. I also learned how to evaluate the horse and determine which is the appropriate tree. I have also learned the importance of rider balance in the saddle.

Since my initial training, I have attended continuing education classes in Maryland and have also participated as an instructor in the training of other fitters with County Saddlery.

My focus is on the horse and rider. It is my firm belief that you cannot compromise the horse for the rider and you cannot compromise the rider for the horse.

It is a partnership that requires thought and consideration. The saddle needs to be viewed as a piece of equipment. I believe that, when you have a properly designed and fitted saddle, both horse and rider can progress. My goal is to help each rider/horse combination achieve that goal.

I am looking so forward to this clinic and working with each of you! Please feel free to write out any questions or concerns you have with your current saddles and how they relate to you and your horse.

Sometimes it’s just nice to play dress up with a pony. Cora was a lovely model for our students to practice putting everything from ear bonnets to boots to polos on! Isn’t she cute in her red and teal gear?
