The Tatami Martial Arts & Fitness Academy brings to Alameda California a determined system to meet all of your needs in Judo (Small Circle Judo-Wally Jay), Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (Gracie Jiu Jitsu), and Self-Defense, first and foremost, in a constructive, disciplined, friendly and safe way. We also provide NASM certified personal training services & we take great pride in our all levels fitness camps

. We empower each other to reach out our full potential experiencing an overall improved healthy lifestyle through our unique learning system. We provide a fun and yet very educational instruction to include everyone who has ever dreamt of becoming a martial artist. We will identify and support the student progress, needs and goals maintaining an excellent quality of life.

I’ll admit, my first reaction was, “good, this hater got humbled.” But hearing him own it like this reminded me to have a little more patience and humanity too.

And props to Bernardo and Brandon for showing up with complete class and representing the culture that made me fall in love with being a Gracie University Certified Training Center in the first place. 🥋

What I think is so cool about Ryron Gracie is how intentionally he pours into the Gracie University Certified Training Center network. He visits schools, jumps on the mat, and creates content with instructors because he understands how much that support helps our schools grow.

This photo also reminds me of two life altering decisions I made in 2020: making Crosley Gracie Jiu-Jitsu academy my official training home and making Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Alameda a Gracie University Certified Training Center. I trusted myself, and I’m incredibly proud of where those choices have taken me.

Surprise Thursday night drop in from Ryron Gracie, right here in Alameda! 🥋🔥

We were all practicing in our small group when we suddenly heard, “Hey, guys!” We looked up and stared at this tall, tan stranger for a solid 10 seconds before it finally registered… It was Ryron!

It was especially exciting for the teens who stayed late to work on their Combatives test. Ryron jumped right in, helped them with their techniques, and shared some invaluable details.

For Wilder and Addison, who started training with me when they were just five years old and have now been by my side on the mats for nearly 11 years, this moment felt especially meaningful. After all these years together, getting to share an experience like this with them was incredibly special.

Another amazing Instructor Certification Program at Gracie University. 🥋

Before becoming a Gracie University Certified Training Center, I was running a jiu-jitsu gym with no structured curriculum, no clear path for students, and I was barely making ends meet.

I still remember my dad giving me the reality check I needed: “You need to make something happen because right now, this is just a hobby.”

Becoming a Certified Training Center completely changed the direction of our academy. We chose this path because our mission is simple: to provide the most effective self-defense on the planet to you, your children, and your families.

Gracie Combatives gives beginners the fastest path to street readiness through 36 essential self-defense techniques, and once students complete that program, we have advanced training ready for them to continue their journey.

Next up on my goal list: earning my Pink Belt so we can bring Women Empowered to Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Alameda and provide a safe, empowering self-defense program for the incredible women in our community. 💗

Thank you to Rener, Ryron, the entire Gracie University team, and all of the Certified Training Centers that continue to inspire me.
