D&M Sports Training is co-owned by Darcy Thompson and Micaela Minner. Darcy is the strength and conditioning coach and Micaela is the softball and baseball program director. They both have combined forces under one building to help educate athletes on all levels. Not only does the education relate to sport specific movements with regard to skills and physical ability, but also portrays their passi
on and desire to build athletes' character, body awareness, and increase each athletes' love for their sport. They will both be able to explain in detail the 8 absolutes which are the mechanical movements in the swing, explain the contact points for the curve ball, screwball, breaking ball, slider, drop ball, and rise ball. As for the trajectory of the rise ball and a softball pitcher standing 5`5 and the hitter is 5`5 and they release a ball from their hip and it crosses the plate at the hitter`s chest, this ball is rising or moving upwards - same concept. The bat must get into ball path. They will also cover the importance of timing - how to be on time for a slow, medium, or fast pitcher who has off-speed pitches with a good change up. With regard to timing - understanding when and how to load to toe touch, knowing what to look for and where, and feeling hip control are all necessary for being on time. If you are or are not sitting on a change-up they will help you understand how to be on time for it. Hand-eye coordination and tracking are also important tools to understand if a hitter wants to make solid contact consistently. They will do drills to help you feel and gain better awareness of the importance of your eyes. If you can`t feel it, you can`t fix it. One of the most important aspects of the game is the mental game. Your mind/brain is very powerful as it controls the hands and eyes - key for hitting. They will help you learn how YOU control your at-bat NOT the pitcher. Once you understand that if you hit the ball hard you win, you will become a more consistent and confident hitter. Darcy Thompson is the strength and conditioning coach and is the program director for all speed and fitness classes. She provides athletes and people of all ages the opportunity to reach their goals. Every session is different for each client. She can train clients for sport specific skill sets, will improve strength and conditioning levels, increase speed and agility , cover Olympic lifting movements, instruct boot camp classes, provide weight loss information, increase muscle definition and toning of the body, and a variety of other options. Her clients range from age 8 years old to 60+ years of age. Attempting to get fit without a personal trainer is like trying to fly a plane without a pilot’s license or trying to fill a cavity without having dental training. Personal trainers are expert body transformation specialists. They study and master the art of using aerobic and anaerobic exercise, strength training, supportive eating and recovery programs that provide positive physical change in a fun, effective, safe and efficient way. This is done by the personal trainer's awareness of each clients' individual goals, physical abilities, and personal lifestyle. Can someone get fit by themselves, of course, but they are much more likely to get there more slowly, run a high risk of quitting and may even get injured. Those who exercise with a personal trainer see quicker and more dramatic results. Personal trainers not only ensure a safe and effective program, they provide motivation, support with positive lifestyle changes, and they keep each workout, interesting, progressive and fun. Why Strength and Conditioning? Athletes, regardless of age or ability, need to learn how to properly care for their bodies in general. Injuries that likely can be prevented too often end careers, sometimes even developing lifetime debilitation. A lack, or imbalance of strength can lead to tendon and ligament problems, bone chips, or even stress fractures. Aside from injury prevention what else can I expect from a good Strength and Conditioning program?
• Faster Athletes
• Stronger Athletes
• Powerful Athletes
• Confident Athletes
Program
Each Athlete will start off the program with some simple testing. The testing will include:
• 20 yard dash
• Vertical jump
• Rotational Ball Throw
• 20 yard shuttle
• Sit ups
• Push ups
From this testing the coaches and athlete will be able identify the strength and weaknesses and the proper programming to improve the athlete’s ability. Depending on age, each athlete will follow specific programming geared towards their sport and the flow of the season.
