A Memorable World Cup 2026 Watch Party: Democratic Republic of Congo vs. Uzbekistan! 🎉

What an incredible day it was this past Saturday as we cheered on the Democratic Republic of Congo vs. Uzbekistan, celebrating the DRC’s stunning 3-1 victory! 🇨🇩⚽️

This amazing watch party, hosted by the FC Akron Simba team in partnership with the Akron Police Community Relations, was a fantastic celebration of unity and culture. A heartfelt thank you to the Akron Police Department Akron Police for their unwavering support in making this event a success!

Special thanks to Officer Michael, Officer Orlando, the IIA staff, and the Akron Congolese community for their assistance during the event.

To everyone who showed up, your energy and enthusiasm made the atmosphere electric! 🙌 Our Simba players, along with the entire Akron Congolese community, truly enjoyed every moment. It was a joy to celebrate together and strengthen the bonds within our community.

Last week, we received a generous gift card worth $50, kindly donated by Buehlersfreshfoods Store through the Akron Police Community Relations soccer initiative. This contribution will help us purchase food for today’s Watch Party for the World Cup match between DRC and Uzbekistan, at 7:30 PM.

Arrive early to cheer on FC Akron Simba as they take the field before the World Cup match is televised.

Then stay to celebrate, connect with the community, and cheer on DR Congo together. It's going to be a night filled with soccer, community spirit, and fun!

What an exciting watch party! A huge thank you to the @ International Institute of Akron for hosting the Congolese community and bringing us all together for such a thrilling match between DR Congo and Portugal. The atmosphere was electric, and it was fantastic to see everyone so engaged and cheering for their teams. This event truly highlights the spirit of community and sportsmanship.

Events like these not only bring us closer as a community but also create lasting memories. We appreciate your efforts in organizing such a wonderful gathering.

The World Cup was created to bring countries together.

While recent headlines have focused on visa denials, travel restrictions, and delayed arrivals, we want to take this opportunity to celebrate what makes the game, and our Akron community, so special.

In honor of Immigrant Heritage Month and World Refugee Day on June 20, we'll be highlighting the national teams that Akron's immigrant and refugee communities are cheering for throughout the tournament. We'll also be spotlighting the people, cultures, and immigrant-owned businesses that help make Akron a vibrant and welcoming place to call home.

Follow along on our social media throughout the next month as we celebrate the communities that bring our city to life and the global spirit that makes the World Cup so meaningful.

Though we faced some tough competition, securing one win and putting up a strong fight in the other two matches showcases your hard work and determination. 🌟We are incredibly grateful to our anonymous donor for the generous $1,100 contribution to our soccer team! This amazing support will allow us to purchase jerseys for three teams in our club (U-12, U-13, high school boys, and our new girls’ team), benefiting all 56 players, many of whom are refugees. Your kindness, coordinated through the Akron Police Community Relations Soccer Initiative, is making a profound difference in our community.
