Our 5th Annual Vantage Lady Vikings Invitational is now up to 62 confirmed teams!

It just got more competitive with the addition of the defending state Champs in Massillon Perry.
Other additions this week are Barberton, Keystone, and Normandy!

Excited to see the increased competition again this season for the Lady Vikings Invitational!!!

Each year we have had a large amount of girls that wrestle in our tournament make it to the state tournament and do very well! This year looks to be no different!!!

Our next returning Senior is Albert Sorey.

Albert has been with the program for a few years, but unfortunately has never been able to make it onto the mat for the Vikings. Outside factors have delayed that process for him.
However, he has always been a competitor and great teammate in the wrestling room. He always works hard and pushes his teammates!

We are hoping that this year is the year and can finish his senior year with some success on the mat!

How are you going to get better today???

Are you going to follow in the footsteps of the 3 Vikings? They had the DISCIPLINE to get up early in the morning and be in the weight room at 4:30am with a positive ATTITUDE. They put in the EFFORT for a great workout!
They are doing the little things to help them get better and ready for the season.

So what are you going to do today to get better?
Are you going to make an effort to pay attention more in class?
Are you going to get those assignments done and turned in on time?
Are you going to do the chores your parents asked you to do?
Are you going to work at being a better person overall, a better son or daughter, a better student, etc.?

Mohammad is our next returning Senior!

Last season was his first time ever competing in wrestling. But, you could tell from day 1 that he loved the sport. He spent his junior season as a JV, but he got to wrestle some Varsity Matches. He took his beatings as a first year wrestler, but he never backed down. He was willing to put in the work required to get better at this sport.

One of my favorite moments from last season is the picture posted above of Mohammad. As a backup wrestler, he had a huge pin in the semi-finals of the Conference Championships. He hit a su***de roll and pinned his opponent and got up absolutely fired up as you can see in this photo!

I am hoping for him to have a much better year this year and that he can make the Varsity lineup. He has been working hard this summer by going to open mats to try and improve his style!

Did you get better today?

These 3 wrestlers got better today!
They had the DISCIPLINE to get up early before school and come to the weight room at 4:30am. They come in with a positive ATTITUDE and gave their best EFFORT in the full body workout!
I know they will take that same effort, attitude, and discipline into the classroom, home, and more!

Our next returning senior is Lorenzo Leatherwood.

Lorenzo joined the team last year as a junior with no prior experience in the sport. Unfortunately, starting as a junior is always tough in this sport.

Lorenzo took his beatings, but he also had moments where he flashed is potential and got some big pins or beat some kids who were more experienced than him.

We are hoping that we can unlock his potential and athletic ability for his senior season!

Did you get better today?

These 4 Vikings did! They had the DISCIPLINE to get early and get to the workout at 4:30am before school. They showed up with a positive ATTITUDE and gave great EFFORT in their workouts!

How are you going to get better today?
Are you going to get better as a son or daughter?
Are you going to get better as a student?
Are you going to get better as an athlete?

The goal is to get better at something today!

Our Next Senior Viking is Jermaine Tucker.

Jermaine decided to join the team his sophomore year with no prior experience in the sport. His sophomore year was rough because just couldn't get healthy enough with a back injury. He was only able to wrestle in a few matches that year.

Last season was up and down for him. He would have some good matches and find some wins last season. However, that same back injury plagued him and he had to miss some time during the season. But, he got better each time he was able to wrestle.

We are hoping that Jermaine can stay healthy all season for his senior year and continue to get better! He has been working this off-season in the weight room to get stronger and be ready for his senior year! We are hoping he can finish strong for his senior year!

Senior Mission Rai

Mission is a 3 year letter winner for our team.
He has had a rough go the last few seasons. Especially as a freshman and a sophomore where he took his bearings as a middleweight in division 1.

However, last season, as a junior he took a big step and finally started to figure out his style and started to improve match by match. He won more matches last season than he had in his 2 previous seasons. We are hoping he can build on that this year and finally put it all together.

Mission has been working to get stronger, faster, and more technical this off-season in the weight room and in open mats. We are hoping for him to take that next step for his senior year!

Our next returning senior for the Vikings is DJ Taylor!
DJ came to us last year as a junior after having some experience in the sport. He hadn't wrestled in a few years so he was a little rusty getting back into the sport

By the end of the season, he became one of our more consistent wrestlers. He finished his junior season as a District Alternate at 144.

We are hoping that DJ can take another step and become a leader for this new crop of young Vikings and finishes his senior year strong!
