Spokane Speedway management changes
From nwmns.com media
Spokane (May 30, 2019)– There’s a new face at Spokane Speedway in 2019, but different management promises to not mean too many changes.
Other than more racing at the quarter-mile cushion-style dirt race track catering specifically to motorcycles at the Spokane Motorsports Complex in Airway Heights. The tack is located at the end of Sprague Ave. off of Hayford Road and west of the Northern Quest Resort & Casino.
Jason Colwell has taken over the management of the track from Troy Allen who indicated it was time to spend more time with his family.
“Troy decided he wanted and needed to focus more on his family and asked if I wanted to take over for the 2019 season and I jumped on the opportunity,” Colwell wrote in an email. “I am very thankful and grateful for him allowing me to be so much of a part of it these last three years.”
Most other changes or something new will mostly be smaller things, he said.
From a racing standpoint, Colwell said he did a little bit of road racing off and on in 2006 and 2007. He first learned and raced flat track back in 2016 when Allen brought him to an indoor race at the Spokane Fairgrounds.
“Needless to say, I was hooked,” Colwell said. Allen had just taken over ownership of Spokane Speedway from ex-racer Joe Kopp that year so
Colwell was out helping him getting ready – but racing too.
Being on the seat of a flat-track bike helped Colwell learn, “What it took to make every race weekend successful.”
He puts that schooling to work.
“I added two more races for the season, we are now hosting two races for the Northwest Flat Track Series (NWFTS) and hosting the only TT race, which consist of a right-hand turn and a jump,” Colwell said.
Those dates are an August 10 TT race — that’s where a chicane is built into the circle track — and a September 7 short-track race.
“We will be hosting SWX (television) for two races again this year, one will be August 10 so that should be a good show.
