Today is a day that is met with sadness and joyful reflection.

Today our Parks & Recreation Director JC Kennedy is retiring after 25 years of loyal service to the City Airway Heights. In 25 years, JC has accomplished some truly remarkable things that have improved the lives of residents for almost 3 decades and will continue to well into the future. Parks throughout Airway Heights filled with amenities for all ages to enjoy, programs and events that have seen thousands of kids and adults engage in activity and community bonding creating lifelong memories, and of course the opening the Rec Center- a place that has brought health and wellness to our residents, and is valued not just by our residents but by the region.

JC’s career is highlighted by some amazing awards for his commitment and dedication to serving his community: 2-time City of Airway Heights Employee of the Year, 2-time City of Airway Heights Department Head of the Year, and 2-time West Plains Chamber Person of the Year. JC has also mentored and guided countless part-time and full-time staff to excel in their jobs, care about the work they do, and to pursue careers of public service.

So from all of here at Airway Heights Parks & Recreation, we'd like to say farewell and THANK YOU JC.

What an amazing Winter Youth Basketball season!

This year we had 136 kids across 14 teams competing in four age divisions, and the gym was full of energy, teamwork, and growth every single week.

And it wasn’t just basketball… Our cheer squad brought the spirit all season long, showing up each week to cheer on our teams and keep the excitement high on game days.

This season also marked an exciting milestone with the introduction of boys and girls teams in the 9/10 and 11/12 divisions. It was a fantastic step forward for the program, and the competition and sportsmanship on display made it a huge success.

And to cap it all off, a BIG congratulations goes to our 11/12 Girls team — the Outsiders, led by Coach Verbeck! With a perfect 8–0 record, they finished the season with an exciting win last weekend at the 4Rec Mini March Madness Championship.

Finally, we want to send a huge thank you to our amazing volunteer coaches, our dedicated referees, and of course all of our players and families for making this season so memorable.

Next up: Spring Soccer and Flag Football!
