There’s something about this sport that goes far beyond the cars.

It’s the little boys standing in the pits, watching every move.

The ones who know which car is theirs before they can even explain why.

The ones who carry tires, hold tools, ask a million questions, and somehow always seem to be right where the action is.

They’re not just watching racing.

They’re learning it.

Living it.

Becoming part of it.

Today, it’s a jack that’s almost bigger than he is.

Someday, it might be his own car sitting in that pit.

And maybe that’s one of the best parts of racing — watching the next generation fall in love with it, one little moment at a time.

Her View Today.

You check the trailer one last time.

Five kinds of drinks because everyone has a favorite.
Snacks for everybody.
Contact solution.
First aid kit restocked.
Chapstick.
Sharpies.
T-shirts.

Wait.

Does the money bag have change?

You double check the tools because it never fails...the boys forgot something.

You count the cars.
One. Two. Three.

Shut the trailer door.

Let’s go.

On the drive to the track, you’re watching the clock.

Texting ahead.
Making plans for the people coming to watch.
Figuring out where everyone is sitting.
Checking if anybody needs anything before you get there.

ETA: 5 minutes.

And then you pull through the gate.

Clock in.
Unload.
Set up.
Prep the cars.
Put the tools where they’ll be needed first.

Do we have the lineup?

Find the lineup.
Write it down.
Send it to the group chat.

Start figuring out the night before the night has even really started.

Then, somehow, you find five seconds to sit down.

Deep breath.

Open MyRacePass.

Check it again.

And probably one more time.

Then come the prayers.

The National Anthem.

And suddenly—

Green.
White.
Checkered.

The hours you spent getting everyone there somehow pass in minutes.

And somewhere between all of that, you watched every lap.

You knew who needed to be where.
Who was up next.
What car needed something.
Who needed a drink.
Who needed a picture.
Who needed an answer.

Then it’s over.

Make sure everyone has everything.

Load it all back up.

Hugs.

Goodbyes.

“See you next week.”

And everybody climbs in to head home.

The cars are behind you.
The track is getting farther away.
Everybody is tired.

And while the rest of them are finally shutting their brains off...

you’re already making next week’s list.

What needs washing.
What needs restocked.
What needs fixed.
What needs charged.
What you almost ran out of.
What you need to remember next time.

Because that’s the part people don’t always see.

For some people, race night starts when the engines fire.

For her?

It started long before the trailer ever left the driveway.

And somewhere on that quiet drive home after midnight...

next week’s race has already begun.

Her View.

“Y’all go racing, like, every weekend!”

Correct and we wouldn’t trade the memories made for all the money we’ve ever spent in this sport either. The relationships and bonds these kids have is different and unexplainable.
