A lot of times, I tell the kids I coach one simple thing: Be a good teammate.
Itās something I stress with my own daughter, even now as she plays volleyball in college.
Be a good teammate. Be a good person.
Because eventually, the games stop. The jerseys get put away. The kills, digs, assists, awards, rankings, and wins become memories.
But how you treated people stays with them.
Talent can make you a great player. Work ethic can take you a long way. But character determines the kind of teammateāand the kind of personāpeople will remember you as.
And sometimes, life has a way of putting those words into perspective.
Less than 24 hours from going down one moment, everything will change.
Youāll find out that the season youāve invested so much into is over.
A torn ACL.
A torn MCL.
Your senior year of college.
In one moment, the game youāve given so much to will be taken away from you.
Smile. Compete. Be present.
Take in every rep, every teammate, every huddle, every laugh, every celebration, every moment.
Because sometimes we donāt realize weāre living a moment we would give anything to have back.
