Ladies and gentlemen, your 100kg JV National Champion, from !
I’m still in awe of the journey this young lady has taken. I remember the day her mom and I first talked about finding her a powerlifting coach after people at her gym were amazed by her 600lb leg press.
From squatting to a toolbox just to reach depth, to pulling a somewhat sloppy 225lb deadlift, to now having the heaviest deadlift in JV girls at High School Nationals with 402lbs—her progress has been nothing short of incredible.
Cadence’s focus as an athlete is remarkable for her age. I wish more young lifters had the same laser-sharp mentality to unlock their true potential.
This meet was her toughest competition yet. For the first two-thirds, she led by 12.5kg, but going into deadlifts, the gap had closed to just 2.5kg (5lbs). I told her that her competitor’s coach thought she had opened too heavy.
“Cadence, as a deadlift specialist, that pi**es me the f** off. Let’s prove them wrong and show who the real deadlift queen is.”*
The moment I saw her laugh and smile, I knew there was no doubt—a national champion medal was about to go around her neck.
To top it off, she sealed the win with a 402lb deadlift, extending her lead even further when her competitor missed. That moment was the cherry on top.
I also can’t thank her family enough—they have been an incredible support system and have become great friends along the way.
I can’t wait to see what Cadence does as she moves into varsity next year!
