TheGrint Cup Playoffs teed off last Saturday at Mooresville Golf Club where we had 60 players vying for the trophies. Scorching temperatures made the tournament a survival test in the heat and on the leaderboard. Several flights saw winners sn**ch the trophy by coming from behind.

All of our champions took home a beautiful silver trophy cup along with a $200 Visa gift card, and a Tour Champion hat. Congratulations to all of our winners!

Champ Flight: JIM PROSPERI
Albatross Flight: KEVIN MURPHY
Eagle Flight: MICHAEL MULLINS
Birdie Flight: PAYTON STONE

The Skybrook Summer Sizzler lived up to its name with sizzling temps and scorching hot scores from our winners, including some career bests. We also had the longest sudden death playoff in NC Tour history (spoiler alert: it went 6 holes!).

This exciting event teed up our marathon summer schedule that continues with our patriotic special event at Eagle Chase in two weeks. Make sure to get signed up for that July 3rd event.

In the Champ Flight, Logan James flirted with an under par round most of the day, reaching -2 through 16 holes and finishing with an even par 72 to take the trophy. His two-shot victory was his first of the season.

The Albatross Flight saw Josh Levan cruise to a five stroke victory with a stellar 1-over 73. Josh started and ended his round with birdies to seal his first win of the season.

In the Eagle Flight, it took a sizzling back nine 37 including six straight pars to close out a 79 for Scott Clark to fend off Bill Horst and Jefferson Ellinger. The trio was tied with 2 holes to play before Scott came thru in the clutch to seize the trophy, his first on Tour this season.

The Birdie Flight came down to the top 2 finishers from our Rock Barn event, Payton Stone and Dave Nichols, battling it out again in a rematch. Both players weathered a roller coaster round to finish regulation with a score of 88. In the sudden death playoff, both players made clutch putts to extend the drama to a Tour record 6 (!!!) playoff holes. Payton finally took the trophy with a clutch two-putt par on hole No. 6 to secure the redemptive win.

After grabbing his first trophy at the Rock Barn event, Jonathan Grice followed it up with a career best 83 on Sunday to win the Par Flight for the second event in a row. He held off hard-charging Tour rookie Conner O’Toole with a clutch birdie on 16 to win by 2 strokes.

Congratulations to all of our Flight winners who took home a $200 Visa gift card, a Tour Champion hat from Flyway Hats and a beautiful trophy.

Welcome back to tournament golf! With a couple of rescheduled events in March and April it had been a minute since we teed it up together. The Rumble at Rock Barn was a worthy start to our sizzling summer schedule.

We want to give a big thanks and shout out to our title sponsor for this event and the Skybrook event next week: NeoGenix Stem Cell & Regenerative Therapies .
Our own Tour Director, Chris Beeman had the Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy done on his arthritic back over 2 years ago and is still reaping the benefits of playing almost 200 rounds a year. We are happy to refer Tour members to NeoGenix for a free consultation. Just ask!

With 60 players competing for trophies across 5 flights, we saw some great battles in great conditions at the #1 public track in the Charlotte area. The ideal setup led to the most closely contested tournament in our chapter’s history! Every flight was decided by 1 or 2 strokes. Now that’s as tight as it gets.

Congratulations to all of our flight winners. They took home a $250 Visa gift card, a Major Event winner coin, double race points, TheGrint Tour Champion hat, and a fairway bucket trophy!

Champ Flight: CHUCK FLOYD
Albatross Flight: ALEX NEWTON
Eagle Flight: MATT RICKLE
Birdie Flight: DAVE NICHOLS

Congratulations to our champions from the Strantz Shootout on Pawley’s Island last weekend.

Several flights had packed leaderboards after day 1 at True Blue. Sunday’s final round at Caledonia saw several players pull away with spectacular scores. Our flight winners took home a $500 Visa gift card prize along with a beautiful trophy to pretty up their mantle.

In the Champ flight, Marais Lombard shot a blazing score of 30 on his final round front nine to quickly erase a 3-stroke deficit from Round 1. With 6 birdies on his way to a closing round of 69, Marais won by three shots while also collecting several skins.

In the Albatross flight, the final round lead changed several times with 3 different players grabbing the top spot at some point during the round. By the time the final group reached the 16th tee, Michael Segarra had built a 7-shot lead and held on for a two stroke victory.

After Day 1, the Eagle flight looked like anyone’s to win, with 8 players (!) within 3 shots of the lead. On Sunday, former TheGrint Cup Champion Matt Rickle took command with a Super Skin eagle on the par 5 8th hole to shoot an even par 35 on his opening nine. He blitzed the field by 10 strokes on his way to shooting a personal tournament best 74.

In the Birdie flight, Virgil Crow was tied for the lead after Day 1 but struggled on the front nine Sunday to fall 3 back. He turned things around with a clutch birdie on the par 3 11th hole. He played just steady enough the rest of the way while his nearest competitors slumped to earn the victory by 4 strokes.

The Par flight was a three horse race through 27 holes. On the final 9 holes however, Joseph Hazelwood avoided big numbers while his opponents found trouble. He made up 6 strokes with a bogey and a par on holes 10-11 to take the lead and not look back, finishing 4 strokes clear of the field.

Congratulations to all of our Strantz Shootout winners! Great clutch play at two very challenging courses.

Next up, our first regular event of the new year takes us to Sapona Club in Lexington, NC for the Spring Fling at Sapona. Registration closes Thursday. So get signed up today!
