Hanover-Horton Equestrian Team

Hanover-Horton Equestrian Team How do I become a member? Sign up begins in May. There will be a sign up sheet in your High School and Middle School office. No. Where are the shows held?

The coach will contact you at a later date to let you know when the first meeting is scheduled to fill out horse and rider registration forms. Do I need a horse to be a member of the Hanover-Horton Equestrian Team? Anyone can be on the Hanover-Horton Equestrian Team. There are two types of members - Riding members and Grooms (Non-Riding members). Grooms are responsible for assisting riders as they

prepare for competition and participating as a non- competing team member. Members who want to ride must have access to a horse because horses are not provided. MIHA Competitions are held at the Lenawee County Fairgrounds in Adrian. Transportation is the responsibility of each team member. How many competitions are there? For the MIHA, there are three District meets. The team with the highest points from Districts will go to Regionals and the top two teams from Regionals go on to the State Finals. Do I get to choose my classes? After getting to know each rider and horse, observing them at practices and determining the team’s needs, your coaches will determine class placement. For MIHA competition, the more versatile a rider, the more likely they are to participate in the maximum slots. What special clothes do I need if I want to be a riding member? Appropriate show attire is required and varies depending on the types of classes you enter. It is always best to have your own show clothes, but when the team needs a rider to participate in a discipline that they do not normally show in, the team attempts to loan clothes (and related tack) to help minimize cost to the rider. When are team practices? MIHA mandatory practices (1-2/wk) usually begin in August. Each rider should be practicing at least 3-5x/week on their own. The team may hold additional practices in which the rider may wish to participate. Equestrian Team practice is not intended for rider instruction or horse training, but provides athletes with an opportunity to prepare for competition. Practices will evaluate our pattern awareness, allow us to experience the event-specific obstacles and focus on team events. What classes are available to show in? There are 17 MIHA classes available:
1. Western Fitting and Showing
2. Saddle Seat Fitting and Showing
3. Hunt Seat Fitting and Showing
4. Saddle Seat Equitation
5. Saddle Seat Pattern
6. Saddle Seat Ba****ck
7. Hunt Seat Equitation
8. Hunt Seat Ba****ck
9. Equitation Over Fences
10. Western Equitation
11. Western Ba****ck
12. Western Riding or Western Reining
13. Trail
14. Flag Race
15. Cloverleaf
16. Timed Events Pattern
17. Two-Person Relay Race
Can I show more than one horse? For MIHA competition, riders are limited to two mounts per season. These horses must be registered with the MIHA and registration must be completed before a rider can participate. Horses can only be shared by immediate family members. A current negative coggins test is also required, in accordance with the Michigan State Law. How many classes can I ride in? The number of classes that each rider can ride in will depend on how big the team is. Coaches assign the slots and their decision is final. How many are on the team? Per MIHA guidelines, an “A” team can have 10 or more riders, “B” team 5-10 riders, “C” Team 2-5 riders, “D” team 2 or less riders. The coaches will determine, based on need, how and if the team will need to be divided.

Our first MIHA meet is finally here! This Sunday the first classes start at 8 am. Plan to arrive at the Lenawee Fairgrounds at 7am.

I will be posting slots on Tuesday evening each week so you will be prepare for your events.

We will have practice Saturday the 6th at the camp arena 9am - 10:30. We will again be working on showmanship patterns and equitation patterns. Please be sure to pick up your area of all manure and depose in the woods please. It was brought to my attention by the caretakers this weekend that we had a miss understanding about the use of the camp. We are only to use the arenas and only as a group with an appointment.

Every team is required to volunteer to work one of the meets helping to set up for events etc. We are scheduled to work the 20th. we will need a family member from each girl to help somewhere. I have signed us up for the in or out gate in the am/pm. That could change so I will point you the right direction that morning.

I have some additional paperwork for you and your parents to fill out and return to me before the meet Sunday. It MUST be returned to me before you can ride at the meet Sunday. I will bring the papers to practice on Saturday. If you can not be at practice I can make arrangements to get it to you before Saturday.

Thanks, Camie

As with any event, if you don’t practice, you won’t improve. And no matter how much your trainer works on your , if you don’t work on your own timing and communication with your horse, it’s not going to happen in the arena for you. It’s certainly true for . No test...no testimony. You can not make lemonade with sugar alone...you must have some sour lemons. You can't learn good horsemanship by riding a tame horse. The harder the battle, the sweeter the victory.

Regardless of what happens to you, never say you're having a bad day...say you're having a character building day. All the things that you're going through are building your character. You are being shaped and designed for your greatness. You have something special. You have GREATNESS within you!

Fall is in the air....It's been a busy summer of open shows, the fair and the 4-h state show. Now we move into the MIHA 2014 season. We have two returning Juniors Charlie Penn and Kelsie Beckwith. We welcomed a new team member this season, freshman Alania Ignatoski. Our first meet will be September 7th at the Adrain Fairgrounds...come support these awesome young ladies as they represent HHS.

Our final meet will not soon be forgotten. Arriving at 6:45am at the Lenawee County Fairgrounds we were all relieved to see the sun come out and warm us all up. As the morning went on dark clouds rolled in and brought quarter size hail that sent all running for cover and continued to down pour for most of the afternoon.
Our team moved on to compete in the rain and in an arena that looked more suited for fishing to bring us home in 5th place for the day. Great job ladies! I am so proud of all that you have accomplished this year and look forward to next season. GO COMETS!!!
A big THANK YOU to our parents for enduring the early mornings and late evenings and for getting our team to practice this summer with temps. 100+ degrees on most of the evenings. Also to Terri Hall, thank you for sharing your knowledge and instruction with our team at practice and during our meets this season.
