Before the anthem, there was the medic. As per an SOFer's request, here's a look at Barry Sadler. He is known for writing “The Ballad of the Green Berets;” but long before the song climbed the charts, he served in Vietnam with 5th Special Forces Group. He was a Green Beret medic - until an infected punji stick wound ended his tour. After the music faded, he wrote the Casca novels - absolute literary gems. He came to a sad end, I know, and I remember the man behind the legend. ~SKK
