Paul Smith's College recently competed in the Major League Fishing (MLF) College Series presented by Abu Garcia at Kentucky Lake, where they faced significant challenges during both practice and tournament day.
The team endured four difficult days of practice in low, murky water conditions, which hindered their ability to locate productive fishing spots. These challenges carried over into tournament day, where both team boats gave it their all despite the obstacles.
One team boat, captained by Kirk Smith and Finn Rugg, managed to weigh in a single fish—a catch of 3 pounds, 7 ounces—earning them a 156th-place finish out of 241 competing boats. The second team boat, manned by Mason Coburn and Lucia, faced mechanical difficulties on tournament day, limiting their fishing time to just two hours. Despite their efforts, they were unable to weigh in a fish.
This tournament marked a bittersweet milestone for seniors Finn Rugg, Mason Coburn, and Lucia, as it was their final competition representing the Paul Smith’s College Bobcats. With their graduation in May, the trio will leave behind a legacy of dedication, resilience, and sportsmanship that has greatly contributed to the team’s growth and spirit.
The entire Paul Smith's College community extends its heartfelt gratitude to Finn, Mason, and Brendan for their commitment and hard work over the years. Their impact on the team and the memories they’ve created will not be forgotten. As they prepare to embark on the next chapter of their lives, we wish them nothing but success and fulfillment in their future endeavors. Tight lines and good luck to these outstanding Bobcats!
