Paul Smith's College recently competed in the Major League Fishing (MLF) College Series presented by Abu Garcia at Kentucky Lake, where they faced significant challenges during both practice and tournament day.

The team endured four difficult days of practice in low, murky water conditions, which hindered their ability to locate productive fishing spots. These challenges carried over into tournament day, where both team boats gave it their all despite the obstacles.

One team boat, captained by Kirk Smith and Finn Rugg, managed to weigh in a single fish—a catch of 3 pounds, 7 ounces—earning them a 156th-place finish out of 241 competing boats. The second team boat, manned by Mason Coburn and Lucia, faced mechanical difficulties on tournament day, limiting their fishing time to just two hours. Despite their efforts, they were unable to weigh in a fish.

This tournament marked a bittersweet milestone for seniors Finn Rugg, Mason Coburn, and Lucia, as it was their final competition representing the Paul Smith’s College Bobcats. With their graduation in May, the trio will leave behind a legacy of dedication, resilience, and sportsmanship that has greatly contributed to the team’s growth and spirit.

The entire Paul Smith's College community extends its heartfelt gratitude to Finn, Mason, and Brendan for their commitment and hard work over the years. Their impact on the team and the memories they’ve created will not be forgotten. As they prepare to embark on the next chapter of their lives, we wish them nothing but success and fulfillment in their future endeavors. Tight lines and good luck to these outstanding Bobcats!

The 2024 fishing season has officially came to a end. It was a very up and down year with a lot of mechanical problems. Thank you to everyone that support us through this tough season. Next year is already looking up.

I've been waiting until things have been finalized to announce that in 2025 I will be competing with the Paul Smith University fishing team. This is a huge step in the process of living my dream.

Stay tuned for more huge announcements in the future and to follow me on my journey as a collegiate athlete.

🌊🚤 Hitting the road for the next 10 days! First stop: Plattsburgh for the ABA PRO SERIES tournament this Saturday! After that, I'll be off to Massena to officiate the final BPT event on the beautiful St. Lawrence River. Super excited to have my brand new Mercury 250 installed and ready to hit the water! Huge thanks to my amazing Mom for making this happen and to all our sponsors for their support. Let’s make some waves! 💪🎣

Big blow to our season yesterday as our boat motor suffered a hole in the #5 cylinder! It's looking like our season is on the verge of being over unless we can get a new motor. We're reaching out to local businesses to see if anyone would be interested in coming on board as a sponsor to help us get back out on the water. If you know of anyone who might be interested, please send them our way! We'd be grateful for any support.

Who's ready for a day on the water? I'm excited to be jumping into a one-day tournament with the NNY Bassmasters on the St. Lawrence River today! Our goal is to bring in a 4-fish limit by 3pm, and we'll be weighing in at the Cape Vincent Boat Launch. Wish me luck and hope to see you there!

I spent a week officiating with the Bass Pro Tour at the James River, where the heat exceeded 95 degrees daily. Thanks to Liquid I.V. , I remained hydrated and focused throughout the day. It's an essential item for anyone who enjoys outdoor adventures, athletes, and those who prioritize staying hydrated. Trust me, it's a lifesaver!

First points tournament of the year is in the books on Cayuga Lake and I'm stoked with the result! We finished 41st out of 81 boats, catching 4 fish for a total of 11.35 pounds. Yeah, it's not a win, but I'm happy with the outcome considering my practice leading up to the event. We had a few close calls, losing 3 fish over 3.5 pounds that could've easily changed our day. On the bright side, I did catch my PB largemouth bass weighing in at 4.85 pounds! Next up is the July 13th tournament on the St Lawrence River, I'm looking to learn from my mistakes and come back stronger. Bring it on!

Just wrapped up practice here at Cayuga Lake and it was a real grind both days! I am boat 8 tomorrow with a check-in time of 3pm, hoping to catch 5 big bites to make it all worth it. Fingers crossed I can turn it around and bring home a decent finish!
