Like the Good Samaritan in the Bible, many Good Samaritans in the race took time out of their journey to help someone along the side of a road even though it came at a cost to them. Thanks to all of you who helped others, even if it was just a quick ask to make sure others were okay. We’re grateful the race has this kind of vibe. We want to recognize two in particular for our Good Samaritan Award. This year’s winners are Rocco Mularoni nominated by Tim Huizenga and Jake Dockery and Molly Star, nominated by John Britt. The winners will receive a $50 credit toward next year’s race.
“Jake (and Molly) not only shared their pump and tube (after a series of failed tire repairs), but also their kindness, patience, and joy in our surroundings. That wheel took about 40 minutes to deal with and they were with me for about half of that,” said John.
Rocco helped a rider with a collarbone injury. “He proceeded to flag down an ATV that had kayaks on it asking them if they could give the rider a ride to the nearest road intersection to more easily allow an ambulance to pick him up,” Tim says The riders in the ATV happily helped making room for him in the front seat and put his bike on top of the ATV. Rocco made sure the rider was safe before resuming his ride…. Rocco did something similar just the week before at the Lumberjack race. He is one of the most caring people that I know...and ALWAYS puts people first even if it causes his race times to decrease.”
