I had a call yesterday with Leandra.
We met seven years ago when she took my class—off and on over the years—and somewhere in there, a friendship formed. She’s a damn good actor. And now she’s writing, producing, creating her own work (but that part’s her story to tell).
She said lately she feels like things are finally coming together. Like all the work she’s put in, all the preparation—it’s paying off.
I asked what changed. She said: “I’m coming from a place of why not?”
Why not go for the thing that scares you a little?
Why not speak up in the rooms that make you shrink?
Why not take the risk, even if you’re not sure you’re “ready”?
Here’s the thing:
If you’re reading this, I’m guessing you have done the work too. You’ve trained, you’ve shown up, you’ve prepared yourself for the opportunities you want.
So let me say this:
You don’t have to wait. You don’t need to be granted permission.
I know—firsthand—that you belong.
At the table. In the room. On the call sheet. Wherever it is, you belong.
And yeah, the industry’s a lot right now. But your belonging isn’t up for debate. Your voice, your work, your readiness—it still matters.
So maybe the better question is:
What would you do if you let yourself believe that—fully?
