Meet CBC + ASB Alumna, Danni Gionet and learn a bit about how her time spent dancing with us impacted her life and career post-grad. 💜 Thanks for taking the time to share with us Dani! Our alumni are so COOL!🌴
More info on Danni’s career as a Costume Buyer:
I got a B.S. in Marketing with minors in Business and Dance from Salve Regina University in 2013. I immediately moved to Los Angeles- I owe that to another CBC/ASB alum Aya Muramatsu, who let me crash with her until we found a place together. I started working at a Commercial Production company as a production assistant, and eventually started freelancing with the costume teams in commercials and music videos. I had to put in many hours to become a member of Local 705 Motion Picture Costumers union, before I could start working in TV and film. I worked on set as a principal set costumer for a few years (I would take care of the main actors costumes, track continuity, aging, effects, etc) and then I started shopping for TV shows, which is my current role in the costume department, as a Costume Buyer. I source the costumes head to toe for the principal actors - whether it be from a store, online, in a costume house, or private vendors etc, and I will help source fabrics and notions for custom Made-To-Order costumes. Depending on whether the project is contemporary or period, and what my designer is asking for will determine where I will go to find the perfect pieces, I will touch, measure, inspect hundreds of garments every day and pull or buy the things that I think will work for the fittings.
