Our school was open for 5 weeks and the owners of the property shut us down (Malik and his brother Shawn). Malik told us when we decided to open, that he understood it would take several months to build up a strong student base. We signed up 10 students in 4.5 weeks.
They shut our program down and Malik told me it was because he needed to make more money, and he wanted us to rent the space for $2,500.00 per month. This same amount of space rents for an average dollar amount of $1,500.00
Coach Donald Peaker and myself spent weeks getting the Dojo ready for classes. We did this at no cost to Malik or his brother.
We had to shut down with out notice to our students. We were lied to and mislead.
The worst part is we had to shut down two years ago when they purchased the property. About six month after they threw us out, coach Donald and I started getting calls from Malik to come back and reopen. We made a deal with them about a year and a half later, and 5 weeks after starting our new business they threw us out again.
We would never deal with Malik or Shawn again. They are terrible business people.
So now coach Donald & I have decided to look for a new location.
We would like at least 1100 to 1500 square of retail space, but we need to be $1200.00 to a max of $1500.00 a month. We also want to stay in Abingdon, Aberdeen or Churchville. if you know of something that would work for us please let me know.
