I began studying Judo, but wanted something more practical and realistic for street combat. I was like a human sponge and I wanted more, so I started studying Chuck Norris's system of Tang Soo Do Karate, but all that system had was great kicks. Then I began following in Bruce Lee's footsteps, I got into Wing Chun Gung Fu under Augustine Fong, then Western Boxing, Fencing, Escrima, Kali, Arnis, and
Jujitsu, and finally Muay Thai Boxing. I believed the only way to test myself and my art was to go into the traditional schools and spar. Believe me back then you were not welcome! Sometimes we were kicked out by the instructors and several of his top students. Still, my like-minded students/friends and I knew that if you wanted to learn how to swim, you had to get into the water (philosophically speaking) meaning we were pioneers back then and if we wanted to see what we have learned works, we had to fight or spar as much as possible. There were only several sanctioning organizations back then, PKA and WKA, not to mention all the bar room brawl events (today's tough man contests) and Golden Gloves Boxing. I ate, drank, and slept Martial Arts Combat. Although I chose to go into stunt acting in films (because it paid better), I continued my Martial Arts, (specifically JKD) studies to this day. I am now semi-retired from stunt work and from working a 40-hour work week. My wife and I have developed Hamson’s Dynamic Fighting & Self-Defense Concepts together using my marital arts expertise, and her administration skills. Together we are hoping to bring South Dakota some Real-world Self-Defense Scenarios, as well as the education needed to teach society how to protect themselves in our world today. We not only will have classes available but will also do group seminars. We intend to develop a podcast and keep up on social media to inform the public of our intentions. We are excited and look forward to meeting you!
