Why We Have a Parent-Free Dance Studio ❤️
At our dance school, we have a policy of parents not being present in the studio during lessons. This is not about excluding parents, but about creating the best possible learning environment for every child.
There are several important reasons behind this decision:
(MOST IMPORTANT REASON)
❤️Safeguarding and protecting our dancers
Safeguarding is one of our highest priorities, and we have a responsibility to provide a safe, secure and appropriately supervised environment for every child in our care.
Having a parent-free studio helps us maintain clear boundaries around who is present during lessons and ensures that access to the teaching space is appropriately controlled.
Whilst we know that parents have the very best intentions, we must also consider the safety, privacy and wellbeing of every child in the room, not just our own.
Some children may have additional safeguarding needs, family circumstances or privacy requirements that must be respected. We cannot always share these circumstances with other parents, which is why having a consistent policy for everyone is so important.
Limiting unnecessary visitors also helps us manage supervision, minimise interruptions and maintain a calm, secure environment.
Our parent-free policy forms part of our wider safeguarding approach, alongside appropriate staff checks, supervision procedures and clear arrangements for dropping off and collecting children.
❤️Building confidence and independence
Children often behave differently when their parents are watching. Having their own space allows them to grow in confidence, develop independence and feel proud of what they can achieve on their own.
❤️Encouraging focus and concentration
Even the quietest parent can unintentionally distract their child or others in the class. A parent-free environment allows dancers to focus fully on their teacher, listen to instructions and get the most out of every lesson.
❤️Creating a safe space to make mistakes
Learning to dance involves trying new things, making mistakes and sometimes feeling a little unsure. We want every child to feel comfortable giving things a go without worrying about who might be watching.
❤️Building relationships with teachers
It is important that children develop trust in their dance teachers, feel comfortable asking questions and learn to follow instructions independently.
❤️Ensuring fairness for all dancers
Some children may not have a parent who can stay and watch. Having the same expectations for everyone helps create a consistent, inclusive environment where every dancer feels equally supported.
❤️Respecting every child’s privacy
Every child deserves to feel comfortable and secure in their dance class. By limiting the number of adults present, we help protect children’s privacy and create an environment where they can express themselves freely, without feeling watched or judged by unfamiliar adults.
We Still Want Parents to Feel Involved!
We absolutely understand how much parents love watching their children dance, and we love sharing their progress with you!
Our closed-studio policy is never about keeping parents out or preventing you from seeing what your child is learning. It is about giving children the opportunity to shine, grow and flourish in an environment designed just for them.
We also recognise that some children may need additional support when settling into classes, and we are always happy to discuss individual needs and make appropriate arrangements where necessary.
We kindly ask parents to respect our policy, trust our teachers and understand that every decision we make is centred around the safety, happiness, confidence and wellbeing of all our dancers.
Thank you for your understanding, cooperation and continued support in helping us create a positive and safe environment for every child ❤️
