As the dust settles from the African Archery Championships in Oran Algeria, we take stock.
Precious Allan Asiimwe defied all odds in becoming African Champion.
Winning Gold has transformed the archery landscape in Uganda.
We however unmask the veil.
We have three national coaches who go far and beyond what's required of them to spread the sport across the hills and valleys in Uganda. As though archery is thier first love in more ways than one.
Coach Aisha Namukwaya who was on this mission, is one of the stand out pillars in our archery eco system.
Back home she left Moreen Awor and Peter Bwire who are all cut from the same cloth.
Talent identification is no easy target, but they've managed to wheel in the continental best with some still aging like fine wine due to be served.
Like many archery federations across the continent funding holds us back.
It's at this juncture we give maximum praise to those that got us to Algeria.
The Uganda Paralympic Committee believed in our obscure vision of reaching the highest sporting echelons,and we did that with the first draw.
They fully funded Precious Allan Asiimwe, Bashir Mutyaba plus Aisha Namukwaya,not to mention countless archery paraphernalia.
We thank them unreservedly for believing in us.
But that's half the team!
Bring forward our Shiloh Kamukama Ayebare who has shown great interest and commitment in the sport. The parents Lillian Muhangi (in the photo with him) and Steve Muhangi share the same values with us,in nurturing and supporting young talent. We applaud thier contribution to the sport and making it possible for Shiloh to take to the line.

We were going to mention Sula Blick the Uganda Archery Vice President and Team Manager on this mission, however he was only our pen pusher who went over to enjoy the finest Algerian cuisines on offer.
