UWA Athletics CLUB UWA Athletics Club is the leading professional athletics club in Uganda. The Club uses athletics to The AGM also recognizes outperforming athletes in the club.

UWA Athletics Club is currently the most successful professional sports club at Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA). The club was started in 2007 and since then, a lot of eminent athletes in the country have gone through it with Moses kipsiro being the most popular and professional of them. UWA athletics club was established to be the number one brand that promotes awareness of Uganda’s wildlife and t

ourism to the country and the world at large. This has been and is still being achieved as most club athletes have promoted Uganda’s wildlife conservation / tourism areas during major athletics events like Common Wealth and Olympic Games. Special appreciations go to UWA Management led by UWA Executive Director Dr. Andrew G. Seguya for the continued support extended towards club activities and especially during club trainings and club competitions. UWA athletics Club annually organizes an Annual General Meeting (AGM) after every end of season were club members get informed of activities that the club and athletes will be engaged in during the coming season. Currently, the club has an executive body comprised of seven UWA senior staff headed by Mr. Sabila M. Chemonges as the club patron and Mr. Fredrick Kizza as the Executive Chairperson. The club also has an administration team that runs the day today activities and these are listed as follows:-
1. Mr. Mwanje Yusuf (Club administrator)
2. Ndiwa Rodgers (Club Coach)
3. Kasajja Raphael (Club Coach)
4. Musagala Ronald (Club Captain)
5. Ms. Nakaayi Halima (Assistant Captain – Women)
6. Yerican Felix (Assistant Captain – Men)

UWA Athletics Club operates within the following parameters:-

1. Identify promising talented athletes from among-st UWA staff and or communities living adjacent to Uganda’s conservation areas and later join them onto the club.

2. Train and develop such identified talents to become the world’s leading athletes in the various athletics events.

3. Expose such developed talents to both National and international athletics sports events. Currently the club has a total of 15 fully recruited athletics staff and over 20 athletics volunteers that represent the organization at major athletics events in the country and the world. Some of these athletes include:-

1. Musagala Ronald (Holds a National Record for 1500m in Uganda)
2. Toroitich Timothy
3. Mayanja Abu
4. Yerican Felix
5. Opiny Leonard
6. Obuto Solomon
7. Etiau Rashid
8. Wabutwa Farid
9. Nanyondo Winnie
10. Halima Nakaayi
11. Nabirye Nasiiba
12. Chebet Annet
13. Among-st others. The club has gazetted two training grounds where our athletes train at-least 4 – 5 times in a week. These venues were identified so as to provide the best trainings for our professional athletes. The venues are:-

1. Nambole National stadium;- The club uses the outer running track of the stadium to train athletes that run short and middle distances. These are coached by Mr. Kasajja Raphael.

2. UWA Wagagai High altitude sports training center: - At the altitude of 2,420m above sea level, the club has established an endurance training center at a place called Teryet. This is also the home of UWA athletics club long distance runners / road runners and also a center where all other professional clubs of UWA like UWA football club go when they want to train for endurance. The long distance team at this center is trained by Coach Ndiwa Rodgers. For more information about the club, kindly pass by UWA sports offices at UWA head office in kamwokya or at Mt. ‎Uganda Wildlife Authority’s Sgt. Major Halima Nakaayi has earned a silver medal in the women’s 800m final at the Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh.

‎She posted an impressive 2:03.14, finishing second behind Bahrain’s Nelly Korir, with Morocco’s Soukaina Hajji taking third place.

‎This achievement reinforces UWA’s rising reputation in international sport, as our athletes continue to represent the institution and Uganda with distinction and unwavering commitment.

‎Jacob Kiplimo Breaks Course Record at Buenos Aires Half Marathon

‎Uganda’s world half marathon record holder Jacob Kiplimo delivered a sensational performance on Sunday (24), winning the 21K de Buenos Aires—a World Athletics Label road race—in the Argentine capital.

‎The two-time World Cross Country champion crossed the finish line in 58:29, smashing the previous course record despite strong winds and chilly temperatures of about 8°C.

‎Setting a blistering pace early on, the lead group covered the first 5km in 13:42, with Kiplimo and Kenya’s Emmanuel Wafula right behind the pacemaker. In the closing stages, Kiplimo surged ahead to finish 36 seconds faster than the previous mark, reaffirming his place among the greatest long-distance runners of this era.

‎Beyond his global athletics success, Kiplimo is also part of the Uganda Wildlife Authority family, making this victory a moment of pride not only for Uganda’s athletics fraternity but also for the conservation community he represents.

Uganda Wildlife Authority Athletics Club, affectionately known as the "Cheetahs🐆," dominated Mayank regional championships in Koboko district today, delivering impressive performances across various events. Top wins came from Krop Dominic in the 1500m and Nyawere Christine in the 100m and 200m events.

‎The club's relay teams excelled, claiming top spots in the 400x4 relays for men and both top spots in the 400x100m and 400x4 relays for women. Other exceptional performances came from Okwii Eric, who won the 200m, and Muhereza Davis, who took the top spot in shotput.

‎With 10 gold medals, 7 silver medals, and 3 bronze medals, UWA Athletic Club's victory showcases their talent💪🏾. Nakaayi Grabs Bronze in Thrilling 800m Showdown

‎Yesterday, 4th May, Uganda Wildlife Authority's Sgt. Major, Halimah Nakaayi, delivered an outstanding performance at the Wanda Diamond League in Shanghai/Keqiao, China.

‎Nakaayi secured a well-deserved bronze medal in the women's 800m event with a remarkable time of 1:58.39, her fastest this season. Tsige Duguma of Ethiopia dominated the competition. Australia's Sarah Billings claimed silver with a personal best of 1:57.83.

Kiplimo Shines in London Marathon Debut

Uganda Wildlife Authority's Sgt. M. Jacob Kiplimo made a powerful statement in his marathon debut, securing second place at the 2025 London Marathon earlier today.

In his first appearance over the full 42-kilometre distance at a World Marathon Major event, Kiplimo delivered an impressive performance, crossing the finish line in a remarkable time of 2:03:37.

Kiplimo's impressive run was ultimately topped by Kenya's Sebastian Sawe, who dominated the race with a blistering 2:02:27 finish, leaving Kiplimo just over a minute behind.
