Uganda Freestyle Kayak Team

Uganda Freestyle Kayak Team The Uganda Freestyle Kayak Team includes 5 members who live in Jinja on the banks of the mighty Nile River. Here is our 2017 Uganda freestyle kayak team!

They kayak on class 5 rapids on a daily basis, working for kayaking and rafting companies in the area. Meet Yusuf, Sadat, David and Amina; they come from a town called Jinja, which lies on the banks of Lake Victoria and the mighty White Nile, in Uganda. Here is a group of people that kayak on class 5 rapids on a daily basis, working for kayaking and rafting companies in the area. This is a team wh

o have been born into a country in which for a large population of people, the daily wage can be less than $1.50 a day. A team who, through their own passion, determination and drive have not only developed successful jobs and careers, but who are also world class kayakers. Every two years, the international canoe federation holds a Freestyle Kayaking World Championships, in which athletes compete from around the globe, the gain the prestigious title of World Champion. But, as an athlete competing, its not just about the title; its about the opportunity to travel to world class venues, its about meeting and being inspired by other world class athletes, and its about representing your country on a world class stage. In November 2017 the Freestyle Kayak World Championships will be held in San Juan, Argentina. We need to raise $3500 per competitor to cover flights, competition fees and accommodation. We're looking for a volunteer (or a couple of people to team up to make it happen) to be Ugandan Team Manager and help get the Uganda Freestyle Kayak Team to Sort, Spain.

Primary responsibilities would be coordinating the paperwork, visas and travel plans with the team possibly at the event itself some coordinating too, which could be done alongside another larger team if they were happy for a few Ugandan team tag ons!

It is not 100% necessary that they are in Uganda on the build up and it is not 100% necessary that whoever it is is going to the worlds either, though either would be a bonus. They do need to be organised, proactive and able to arrange things like flights, and visas with a good level of independence and coordinate with the team online. Selections have already been done.

It is not necessary that the volunteer knows the finer details of freestyle coaching or competition scoring, Sam Ward is about and able to help with the coaching.

Please email Sam [email protected] if you might be able to help out with either at the event, or organising on the build up!

Check out the new wave for team Uganda to train on!

Out of the ashes of Isimba, rises a new beast!

The reservoir backed up to the base of Vengeance and changed the top to create this beauty. If we found this wave at stakeout, we'd camp in the snow next to it for days... no need for that here... Adrift are setting up a new bar and camp on the island where the picture was taken from, and everything except the beer is 25 degrees day and night.

This shot was taken during at the end of a long day surfing the other features upstream.
