Hello
We have received information that some of the rocket modelers in different countries (Estonia, Lithuania, Poland, Ukraine) are considering not participating in the 2022 European Space Modeling Championship, which is scheduled for Serbia. Most Latvian modelers also say no.
There are several reasons for this:
1. Already at the World Championships in Romania in 2021, competitors expressed their dissatisfaction with the costs set by the organizers of the competition. In Serbia this year, these costs have been set at an even higher level for both seniors and juniors.
2. The current political and economic situation in Europe due to the war against the State of Ukraine caused by the Russian Federation is also questionable.
(The influx of millions of Ukrainian civilian refugees in Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, rising fuel and other commodity prices, and threats by the President of the Russian Federation over the possible use of nuclear weapons by the Russian army.)
3. The uncertain situation in Serbia, at a time when the Serbian state has not clearly positioned its state position against the hostilities caused by the Russian Federation in Ukraine.
We would also like to know your position on the above situation and possible action.
