Quiver with Tambour Embroidery (2)

This quiver is crafted following the pattern of a preserved 17th-century sajdak from the collection of Stockholm's "Livrustkammaren". The originalquiver was adorned with hand-embroidered tambour stitches on leather, a technique accurately reproduced using tambour stitches on thin goat leather through machine embroidery.

SPECIFICATIONS

Material and Decor: Base – 2mm vegetable-tanned leather;decorative layer with embroidery – thin goat leather; machine embroidery.
Quiver Size: Length 44 cm, Width 21 cm.
For suspension, 2 functional mounts cast are used. Belt length: 140 cm, and a frame hook fastener serves as a buckle.
Quiver Placement: Right side for right-handed individuals.

A unique find: A forked iron arrowhead, mounted on a short foreshaft. So far, we have only found two forked arrowheads from the ice, and foreshafts are also very rare. The combination of these two elements makes this a very special find. The arrow is dated to the Early Viking Age, around AD 800, and was found at the Langfonne Ice Patch.

Were these arrowheads used to inflict big wounds in the game, or for more specialized hunting, for exemple birds? We tried out a replica on a reindeer carcass and the arrow broke the spine of the animal😮 So, such arrows pe*****te in depth and do not only produce flesh wounds. They would have been a lethal weapon.
