Light vs. Regular: What actually makes a drysuit heavy? 🤔
Let’s talk about material weight and what it actually means for your Panzer suit (XL size, standard setup with torso protection, plastic zipper, soft boots, and modular cuff rings):
Light (~400g/m²) ➔ Total suit weight: 4.5 kg
Regular (~500g/m²) ➔ Total suit weight: 5.2 kg
As you can see, the difference between the fabrics is only about 700 grams!
Extra weight comes from the extra features, not the trilaminate itself, look at these extremes:
✈️ Travel version (no additional protection layers, glued cuffs, socks) ➔ just 2 kg!
🛡️ Armadillo Skin (all the possible options, max abrasion resistance, heavy-duty boots, metal zipper) ➔ up to 7 kg!
So, why choose the lighter fabric?
It is, well, lighter 😉 But also softer, easier to fold, and less bulky, making the whole suit slightly more compact.
Why stick with the regular one?
It’s tougher, more durable, and the outer layer offers reliable scratch and tear resistance.
