〝《台北首督芭蕾舞團》是臺灣舞蹈界的園丁。舞團以臺北市為基地，創作臺灣味的芭蕾，舞出在地化的特色。台北首督芭蕾舞團既有超俗優雅與精緻藝術的基底，又有社會批判與人文關懷的特質。它不僅提供國內舞者表演與創作的平台，還致力於拉近芭蕾與社會大眾的距離。舞團顛覆一般人對芭蕾「不食人間煙火」、只演出「外國經典舞作」，甚至是「制式」、「僵化」的看法。發現芭蕾不僅是舞者藝術與技術的展現，也是編舞者創作的表現。芭蕾人以他們獨特的優雅與堅韌的毅力，舉重若輕、堅持跳下去。〞----國立臺灣藝術大學跨域表演藝術研究所趙玉玲教授。
萬事起頭難。舞團成立（1990年3月）之初，即以「編創新作品」為主要操作導向。為維持演出水準，舞團最先是以一星期工作五天（星期一至星期五，早上10:30練舞，下午2點至5點排舞）的職業舞團方式，操作了六年。後來，在舞團財力短絀及好舞者難尋的壓迫下，後年改為一星期工作三天，不過仍維持「全年
無休」操練，多年來仍堅持長期培訓固定舞者。

一年至少一次的「新作全省巡迴公演」，是多年的堅持。舞團至今已發表了七十多支作品，近千場的演出。以芭蕾為基石，嘗試多種風格的探索及開發，其中以結合台灣原住民舞蹈的芭蕾作品，最為人驚豔稱讚。舞團首次出國演出（1999年3月），即獲紐約時報（New York Times）首席舞評家安娜‧綺色果芙（Anna Kisselgoff）的讚譽：「來自台灣的浪漫與傳奇」、「時時充溢台灣影像」及2008年歐洲舞蹈雜誌【Dance Europe】評論：「台北首督芭蕾舞團創作的風格──編作新的、具創新精神的作品。它將芭蕾結合本土的舞蹈形式、在地的譬喻及當代題材，以創造真真正正的『台灣』芭蕾舞。」。
為保持創作活力及多元性，舞團也邀約不同領域的編舞家來共同編作，期望舞團在台灣舞蹈發展的長流中，永不缺席。
“Taipei Capital Ballet is the gardner of dance in Taiwan. The troupe takes Taipei City as its local foundation to make Taiwan ballet, and to perform with local characteristics. Taipei Capital Ballet has not only the graceful and delicated dance skills as its foundation, but also the traits of social criticism and humanistic care. Besides, the troup also offers a platform to the dancers in Taiwan as a performing stage and helps the people get closer to ballet. The troupe has changed ordinary people’s impression of ballet, such as fantastic diet, only classical choreography performance, and the prejudice of immutability. It is discovered that ballet is not only the display of dancers skills and art, but also the expression of choreographer’s creation. The ballet dancers insist on dancing with their unique graceful and strong stamina. Work hard but dance slightly.” said Yu-ling Chao, the professor of NTUA. Taipei Capital Ballet is founded on March, 1993. Since then, the troupe’s main task is to create and produce innovative ballet pieces. In order to maintain the best performance, the dancers first worked five days a week, from Monday to Friday, just like other professional ballet companies. Practice starts at ten-thirty A.M., and from two to five o’clock P.M., rehearsals are scheduled. This weekly work routine was followed for about six years. But due to a lack of financial resources and qualified ballet dancers, the troupe has now been forced to work only three days a week. The troupe still keeps on practicing without a rest, however, and they hope the ballet company can continue their work and develop further. In 2020, Taipei Capital Ballet won the 24th Taipei Culture Award. It is the first ballet troupe in Taipei to win the award. In 2009, Taipei Capital Ballet won the 7th Taishin Performing Arts Award. From 2008, Taipei Capital Ballet has been selected as Taiwan Top performing arts group of National Cultue and Arts Foundation. The troupe insists to hold nation touring performance at least once a year. So far, the troupe has already made more than seventy choreography and nearly a thousand times performance. The troupe tries to explore various styles of dance by taking ballet as basic element. One of the fabulous choreography is the work with Taiwan aboriginal dance element. The Company’s first performance abroad was on March, 1999. The New York Times Chief Dance Critic, Anna Kisselgoff praised the performance as a romantic legend from Taiwan illustrating a full range of Taiwan imagery. In 2008, the magazine, Dance Europe, also has criticism—Making creative choreographies is Taipei Capital Ballet innovation style, and it represents the real Taiwan ballet by combining ballet with the local dance form, representing it with local metaphor and taking contemporary themes as topics. To maintain their creativity, and variety, the Taipei Capital Ballet invites choreographers from different territories to collaborate with them and hopes the troupe will continue to thrive, and make its contribution to Taiwan Ballet.
