A Birdy is a suspension bike that happens to fold.

Once you see it that way, you stop thinking in parts.

What we brought to this one isn't a box of components. It's a way of understanding how a Birdy should move, and how it should look while it moves. Damping, braking, drive, and the hardware your hands touch every day, designed as one system.

That understanding comes from developing components for cars and motorcycles. We just made them smaller.

Two parts on this bike have never been seen anywhere. Today they are.

Both live at the back of this JAVA NEO. Both were built for this frame and nothing else.

▍PRECISO NEO Rear Suspension
Look at what normally sits in this spot. A urethane block from the factory. Sometimes a coil spring. Occasionally a urethane block wrapped in a machined metal shell, so it looks like something complicated is happening inside. It isn't.

If a rubber block or a spring could solve suspension, every engineer working on cars and motorcycles has been wasting their career.

This is an actual suspension unit. Twin symmetrical hydraulic bodies, compound damping, 10mm of real travel. Energy goes in and comes back out under control, instead of bouncing straight back at you. You feel it on the first ride. Nobody has to talk you into it.

Then there's the part nobody puts on a spec sheet. Lift the bike by the saddle until the rear wheel leaves the ground. On most builds you can feel it right there: a small amount of free play where the rear triangle meets the frame. It doesn't affect how the bike rides. You just know it's there.

Our unit carries a mechanism built specifically to close that gap. The rear triangle mates to the frame with almost nothing left between them, and the bike stops feeling like something that comes apart in the middle. Pick it up and it feels like one solid small-wheel bike. Softer over bumps, stiffer under power. One part, two upgrades for the NEO.

▍PRECISO NEO Kickstand
One-piece 6061, fully CNC-machined, bolted at the base of the rear caliper mount, right where the frame carries load best. No stamped plate, no seams, nothing to work loose.

The spring and pivot are tuned, not assumed. It kicks down light, swings through smooth, and makes none of the cheap clatter you brace for. Length is set per wheel size, 16 or 20 inch, so the bike stands at exactly the right angle.

The rest of this build is already familiar to you.

JF201 flat-bar hydraulic system, running the same lever as our JF401, paired with ETF-A two-piston calipers, in red. RADIAL crankset and rotor. FLOAT BLOCK front carrier suspension. CROWN hinge clamps. Every anodized part from the same line, so the red is the same red everywhere.

Here's the part that matters.

What we bring to the JAVA NEO isn't a box of parts. It's a way of understanding this bike, carried over from developing components for cars and motorcycles. We just made them smaller this time.

The G stands for Gravel. The G in G-Class stood for Geländewagen. German for cross-country vehicle. Built for mud, military tenders, and places that didn't have roads yet.

You know how that turned out.

Today those things live outside hotels, not in trenches. Polished, over-specified, gorgeous. Nobody complains. It became something with more character than the brief ever asked for.

The G Line is on the same arc. Brompton built it for rough ground, and some owners do take it there. But most are doing something else: tuning it toward the life they actually ride. Commutes. Trains. Coffee. Weekends that never involve mud.

So the story moved from gravel adventure into everyday life. It became the one you want parked where you can see it.

This is a G-Class that folds.

So build it like one.

Brakes. Rotors. Crankset. Rear suspension. Easy wheels. Front bag mount. Every single part on this build is JuinTECH. One brand, front to back, engineered as one system instead of assembled from six.

The brakes are JF401, our four piston flat-bar hydraulic system. The G Line runs hydraulic from the factory, so there was no reason to settle for the middle of the range. Behind them, RT01Z rotors at 160mm. Up front, a RADIAL crankset, 1X, 54T. Underneath, our G Line rear suspension. And at the rear, our G Line easy wheel set: two wheels and the extension bracket, machined as one piece of thinking.

Then there's the detail that stops people mid sentence.

Purple and red. On a sand frame.

Two anodized colors on one bike is the kind of decision most people talk themselves out of. This owner didn't. And because every part came off the same anodizing line, the purple is the same purple everywhere, and the red is the same red. That is the quiet advantage of building with one brand. Color matching stops being a gamble and starts being a choice.

So what does the G stand for now?

For us, it stands for Go.

Thirty seconds. One G Line. Every gold part on it machined in Taiwan.

This is one of the two G Lines we showed earlier, this time from the beginning.

The FLOAT BLOCK front carrier suspension going on. Rotor and caliper finding their place. The rear suspension dropping in, UNLEASH! NEXT LEVEL engraved down its body. Clamps, headset, one part at a time.

Gold anodizing on a sand frame. That was the owner's call. We think they were right.

None of this is quick. Every one of these parts is cut from solid billet, which is why a build like this is worth watching all the way through.

Rotor rub is the most common complaint in disc braking. Before anyone reaches for a truing fork, the order of diagnosis matters more than the technique.

Every major manufacturer's service documentation points the same way. Check these first:

▍Is the wheel fully seated in the dropouts

▍Is there play at the hub bearings

▍Is the caliper centered (hold the brake lever to let it self-align, then bring both bolts to torque in alternating steps)

▍Are the rotor bolts or lockring fully tightened

▍Is the frame or fork mount faced flat

Most rub is an installation issue, not a bent rotor. Only after all of the above checks out should a rotor be touched.

Then there's a rule many people have never read.

Park Tool's own rotor truing guide states it plainly: do not attempt to bend two-piece rotors at the arms. Bend only at the outer perimeter of the rotor.

RT01Z is a two-piece rotor. That rule applies to it.

▍Why this matters more on RT01Z

A conventional one-piece stamped rotor flexes as a whole. Push it and the carrier and the braking track yield together, spreading the load across the entire part.

RT01Z does not behave that way. Its carrier is a one-piece 3D-machined CNC structure, and it is extremely rigid by design. It will not yield along with the braking track. Place a truing tool across the bolt extension area and the carrier simply holds its ground, while all of that force concentrates into the outer track and its fixing points. Push hard enough and the track can crack.

That rigidity is the entire point of the design. It's also exactly why it needs the correct technique.

▍The rule, in one line

Never place a truing tool across the bolt extension zone (circled in the image). Work only on the outer braking track, away from the fixing points. Start with the lightest pressure possible and increase only if you see no improvement.

▍When is it straight enough

When the deviation is smaller than the thickness of a business card, or within roughly 0.2 mm on a dial indicator, it's true. If a few minutes of careful work shows no improvement, the rotor has reached the end of its life. Replace it.

As our rotors reach more workshops around the world, more technicians are meeting this construction for the first time. If one of our rotors comes across your bench, this is the one thing worth knowing before you reach for the fork.

High rigidity is what makes it brake the way it does. It just asks for the right hands.

Two G Lines. Two different paths. One rare afternoon to document both.

You don't often get to watch the same bike evolve in two directions at once. This time, we did.

The Brompton G Line is built around an internal gear hub. From there, a rider has two ways to go.

Keep the internal hub, and you keep that clean, low-maintenance ride. This build runs the KSI-BR Internal Gear Kickstand.

Or open the platform up. The KST-BR Through-Axle Kickstand isn't just a kickstand, it's a rear dropout conversion. One part turns the G Line's internal-hub rear end into a through-axle external derailleur setup. Lighter wheels. External-drivetrain efficiency. The full range of gearing the market offers. One installation, two upgrades.

Both share the part we're quietest about and proudest of: the top mount. One-piece, 3D-cut, CNC-machined straight from solid billet, bolted directly to the frame. No die-casting. No seams.

It's slow. A CNC machine worth millions makes about ten of these a day. We decided that was fine. This is a bike that will carry you for thousands of hours, and years of your life. The part holding it upright should be built like it.

These frames were captured by our new partner in Vietnam, Bikeland - Brompton Vietnam, a team whose studio smells of hand-drip coffee, surrounded by high-end audio and mechanical watches. This series was shot on their Leica M. People with taste, documenting bikes with taste.

The G Line evolution has only just begun.

NEO System Upgrade.

Yes, we borrowed that line from your phone. Because this isn't a paint job. It's a system upgrade for the way the whole bike rides.

First, how it feels.

▍CROWN Hinge Clamp
The folding clamp, rebuilt like a watch crown. Twist it and detent balls click through machined grooves, the same feedback you get winding a fine watch. Your hand knows it's locked before your eyes do.

▍JAVA NEO Kickstand
Purpose-built for the NEO frame. One-piece aluminum, full CNC, not a stamped folded plate, locked down at multiple points for a rock-solid stance. A light, effortless kick, tuned tighter and stronger than our Birdy stand.

▍FLOAT BLOCK Front Carrier Block
A double-wishbone suspension, the geometry Honda Type R and S2000 trust, shrunk into a palm-sized block. Your front bag floats over the bumps instead of taking them. Loaded or not, the ride stays easy.

▍Rear Suspension
The NEO ships with a rubber block in the rear. You can keep it a block, or make it a real suspension. Ours is a hydraulic-hybrid with 10mm of real travel and damped rebound. The bike sits lower, holds the road, rides softer. By the standard of a rubber block it isn't cheap. By the standard of a suspension, it's simply what a suspension should be.

Then, how it performs.

▍Brakes, our core
Brakes are the hardest thing to get right, and where JuinTECH started. This NEO runs our flagship four-piston caliper, the JF401R, our newest version with a built-in heat sink, paired with an RM01 rotor. More stopping power than this bike will ever ask for. Call it overkill. We call it margin you never run out of. And it's special: the JF401R makes its world debut in Singapore.

▍RADIAL Crankset
A high-rigidity, one-piece crank and chainring. Every watt from your legs goes straight to the road, nothing lost. With the RM01 rotor, the whole bike wears the RADIAL family look.

This is what a system upgrade looks like. Not new colors. A better ride, end to end.
