MTTW x Giant Xinzhuang Ride Like King at Guanyin Mountain

Earlier this morning, MTTW joined Giant Xinzhuang Store for the 2026 Ride Like King (RLK) global charity ride at Guanyin Mountain.

Now in its 18th year, Ride Like King is Giant’s worldwide annual cycling event that promotes healthy living, community, and giving back through cycling. For every 500 kilometers ridden collectively by participants around the world, Giant Group donates one bicycle to communities in need.

This year’s event also pays tribute to Giant Group founder King Liu, who completed a remarkable 927-kilometer ride around Taiwan at the age of 73. Inspired by that journey, the global goal for 2026 is 463,500 kilometers — with the hope of donating 927 bicycles worldwide.

Led by Joe Lee, manager of Giant Xinzhuang Store, riders from MTTW rolled out early in the morning and took on the familiar climbs of Guanyin Mountain. Some riders kept a steady endurance pace, some rode casually together chatting along the way, while others quietly turned the climbs into a friendly “battle mode” effort. It became one of those rides where suffering and laughter somehow coexist perfectly.

With summer heat and humidity arriving in Taiwan, the climbs felt especially demanding. But that also made every corner, every regroup, and every shared moment on the road more memorable. Along the route, riders supported each other freely, stopped for supplies when needed, and enjoyed the simple rhythm of a Sunday morning ride together.

One of the most memorable moments came during the return ride, when cyclists, scooters, and cars all lined up together at a traffic light — a very real and relatable slice of Taiwanese road cycling culture that perfectly captured the atmosphere of the day.

More than just another group ride, the event also reflected the long-standing connection between MTTW and Giant Xinzhuang Store. Whether it’s introducing new riders to cycling, organizing community rides, or encouraging people to participate in charity efforts through riding, cycling has always been about more than speed or numbers. It’s about moving forward together.

Every climb, every drop of sweat, and every kilometer ridden becomes part of something bigger — helping bring bicycles and opportunities to people around the world.

Congratulations to Bill Gaston and Jacci Marie on your wedding! ❤️

Seeing this news truly made us happy.

Bill is not only the Founder / President of the Major Taylor International Riding Challenge (MTIRC), but also someone who has continuously shown kindness, encouragement, and fairness to Major Taylor Taiwan over the years.

Every year, when our team achieved first place in the international team challenge, Bill would personally send prizes all the way to Taiwan to encourage us and make us feel included as part of the global Major Taylor family.

One thing he once said has always stayed with us:

“What America has, Taiwan will also have.”
“I will treat you fairly.”

To us, those words meant more than just support — they represented respect, equality, and genuine friendship.

Thank you, Bill, for everything you have done for the worldwide Major Taylor community.

MTTW x Sanchong Cavalry Team Ride to Wufenshan

This weekend, I headed north to ride again with the incredible crew from Major Taylor Taiwan (MTTW), the team I joined during February’s mileage challenge. This time, the ride was jointly organized by Major Taylor Taiwan (MTTW) and the Sanchong Cavalry Team, and the turnout was massive. It also gave me a chance to revisit the familiar Route 106 and 102 roads that I used to ride often when I was younger.

MTTW is one of those groups where the “minimum” monthly mileage during the February challenge was 1,000 km. Most members are seriously strong riders. Many have completed some of Taiwan’s legendary endurance cycling events, including the Four Lighthouses Cycling Challenge (620 km), Tour de Taiwan (1060 km), and the Taiwan Twin Towers via Central Line (745 km / 12,000m+ elevation gain).

But what I loved most yesterday was how different the atmosphere felt.

Besides the road cycling groups, there were also a few e-bike riders joining the ride. Honestly, it made me want to convince my parents to switch to e-bikes too, so they could ride farther and join more cycling events together. In the end, it doesn’t really matter what you ride. Being able to participate together is the most important thing.

The weather was beautiful, but somehow the wind yesterday was unbelievably strong. Up on Wufenshan, the crosswinds were almost soul-crushing at times, and even the descents felt intense.

Then came the wildest moment of the day.

Near the bottom of the downhill, a huge eagle had been circling overhead. Suddenly, it started diving directly toward me. A rider coming from the opposite direction immediately shouted a warning, but in my head I was just thinking:

"Yes, I SEE IT… but if it actually attacks me, what exactly am I supposed to do?"

At the very last second, when it was only about 2 or 3 meters above my head, it pulled back upward and circled away again.

Still, seeing a bird with a wingspan nearly as wide as a human’s arms flying straight at you while descending a mountain road is definitely an unforgettable experience.

On the ride back down, I spent some time talking with our team captain, Lynn Wen, and somehow the conversation drifted into investing and personal finance. After the ride, we even stopped so she could teach me how to use an investment app and explain some of her investment ideas.

That’s one of my favorite things about cycling with people from different backgrounds. You always end up learning something you never expected.

MTTW Group Ride: Guanxi Dong’an Old Bridge

This was my second time joining an MTTW group ride. My last one—the “Shuangtai Industrial Road”—left quite an impression 😅
The ride leader was flying through winding mountain roads, with constant ups and downs and countless turns. If you didn’t stay close, you’d easily get lost. My phone was running low on battery, GPS signal was weak… and I couldn’t help thinking—this is basically a devil ride. 😝 We may rack up a lot of kilometers, but that doesn’t mean we’re actually fast. 😤

Today’s route, on the other hand, felt much more friendly. Long, straight roads with a few climbs here and there—manageable at our own pace. The distance was just right, and no fear of getting lost. We arrived at Dong’an Old Bridge in Guanxi around 10:10 AM. Our ride leader, Wu Damin, announced we’d roll out again at 11:00, giving everyone about 50 minutes to explore and take photos.

Dong’an Old Bridge, built in 1927 during the Japanese era, features five elegant arches and is a well-known photo spot. Along the way, Jie Yi joined us—he had just completed the “Sheba Taiping Grand Slam” the day before, riding 237 km 🫡
Absolutely insane. He’s my idol 🤩

Lunch was at a live fish restaurant near Shimen Road in Longtan. Two full tables, and by then everyone was starving. Once the dishes arrived, they disappeared almost instantly. Fresh, flavorful, and incredibly satisfying. It had been a long time since I’d enjoyed a meal like that. The bill came to about NT$390 per person—we all paid NT$400 and left the extra as a small contribution to the club fund. Not much, but it adds up 😝

After lunch, we rode back the same way, wrapping up the day at an easy, relaxed pace. A simple, enjoyable ride—one that stays with you.
