I am the owner of Auntie Ashley's Swimming School, located in West Trinidad
I am a Certified Survival Swim and Learn to Swim Instructor, Water Safety Expert and Educator and Drowning Prevention Advocate with over 14 years of experience. I hold certifications from and memberships with The World Wide Swim School, Starfish Aquatics Institute, The American Swim Coaches Association and The Internation

al CPR Institute. I am also the ONLY Certified Autism Swim Approved Provider in Trinidad and Tobago, specializing in Water Safety and Drowning and Wandering Prevention in children with ASD. A lifetime ago, I was also a National athlete, representing Trinidad on several Water Polo and Swim Teams. God knows the plan wasn't to become a Swim Instructor. It's a fact my old coaches still tease me about. How could the young girl who gave them so much headache, turn around and become a coach herself? By God's grace...
After the realization that the corporate world wasnt for me, with the knowledge I had as an athlete, I advertised swim lessons in a local moms group. I truly didnt even know if it even made sense at the time...I remember when my first client ever called me, I didnt even know what I was charging, how long classes would be, or what ages I would teach. I had no lesson plans and truly no clue what the next step would even be...
But somehow, bit by bit, client by client, certification upon certification, somewhere along the line, though I'm not sure where, Auntie Ashley's Swimming Lessons became Auntie Ashley's Swimming School. They say family goes past blood. They are the people who choose you again and again, the people who believe in you on the days you dont believe in yourself. My clients are my extended family. Their babies are mine too and honestly, mine are theirs. And it's because of them, because of you, that I get to do what I love, with people I love, saving lives, one baby at a time. 💗

Water safety isn't something that's learned overnight. It's built over time through confidence, trust, repetition, and age-appropriate skill development.

The babies who become water-confident toddlers don't magically get there when they turn two. They've been preparing long before that. Every breath, every float, every lesson matters.

Mobility isn't the time to start preparing.
It's the deadline.

It’s a difficult question to ask yourself as a parent… but an important one.

If your child unexpectedly found themselves in water, would they know what to do?

Drowning is silent and can happen in seconds..... even with adults nearby. That’s why early water safety matters.

Survival swim is about teaching children age and developmentally appropriate skills that may help buy precious time in an emergency situation. Skills like learning to float, orient themselves in water, and respond more safely if they accidentally find their way to water alone.

Water safety isn’t something to “wait until they’re older” for. The goal is confidence, preparation, layers of protection, and giving children skills that could one day make all the difference. 💙
