Mersin, the "ugly city" of the Mediterranean 🤔
The "unbearable" nature of this city on the Mediterranean coast is that it does not allow breathing due to the heat and high humidity, and even if you do not move, you sweat and your underwear sticks to your body.
As soon as the wind stops in Mersin, you will get overwhelmed and go crazy without air conditioning.
Since almost all flats in Mersin do not have north and south windows required for natural ventilation, houses have to install air conditioners to ensure ventilation.
There is no city plan
Of course, ventilation was also ignored in the planning of the city. Unfortunately, the avenues and streets are not arranged in the south/north direction. The existing avenues and streets are so chaotic that they are almost a "wind dead end". Even on the short streets built in the North-South direction, it is not possible to see the sea or the mountains or feel the wind, because after a certain distance, they are blocked by other buildings.
In order to offer a "sea view house" on the beach, the construction of buildings of up to 20 floors side by side parallel to the sea creates a "Great Wall" that is pulled in front of the wind and the sea view. The houses built in the second row and beyond can neither see the sea nor benefit from the air; in short, they suffocate from breathlessness.
A major earthquake disaster is expected in Mersin

In the earthquake in the Southeast on February 6, 2023, houses shook in Mersin and many buildings were damaged.
Buildings built on sand
Houses on the Mersin coastline are built on sand all the way to Silifke. For this reason, an earthquake with a magnitude of four or more in Mersin would mean a disaster. Disaster may occur for the following reason: Neither sufficient iron nor cement has been put into the concrete of the houses built so far.
Buildings were erected on stream beds (soft agricultural lands). These buildings are in danger of collapse in either an or a flood.
